OT: A-ROD tested positive for Steriods in 2003!!!

Post#1 » by Carnage » Sat Feb 7, 2009 3:50 pm

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/02/07/alex-rodriguez-steroids/index.html?eref=T1

In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

Rodriguez's name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball's '03 survey testing, SI's sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.

When approached by an SI reporter on Thursday at a gym in Miami, Rodriguez declined to discuss his 2003 test results. "You'll have to talk to the union," said Rodriguez, the Yankees' third baseman since his trade to New York in February 2004. When asked if there was an explanation for his positive test, he said, "I'm not saying anything."

While I'm happy that another Yankee has been busted for roids, this isn't good for baseball. A-Rod was supposed to break the HR record clean. If this is true, this taints his legacy and the game of baseball takes a big hit too.

I really don't care about steroids anymore. I'm so sick of hearing about them. Everyone did them. Enough, please. I don't even like A-Rod but I couldn't care less about this.

Also... why is this OT?

Bad news for baseball.

Can't watch a single game and not think for a minute, is this for real?

They should either release the entire list or STFU.

They can't, or at least shouldn't be able to. They're sealed records. I'm pretty sure the assclowns who leaked ARod's name broke the law.

It just doesn't add up for me at all. Why now?

The results and everything were supposed to be sealed and only a few number of people were supposed to have access to it. How come they only leaked Alex's name? This is what just doesn't make sense to me at all. If MLB wanted to get over the whole Barry Bond's problem, why wouldn't they just burn all of this supposed positive tests in 2003?

Lets be serious here, their is no good to come from this story. Unless I hear that this information is 100% accurate, I seriously have no reason to believe that its nothing other then propaganda. Everyone and their mother knows that the media has had it in for A-Rod since he's come to NY, which is why I truly don't believe it at all.

Where are all the other names? Why is this coming out NOW, just days after Bonds evidence is unsealed? Maybe someone wants to take the heat off Barry and put it onto A-Rod so people don't think Barry is so bad after all?

This story is just plain stupid and all a bunch of allegations, until I have some hard evidence, the numbers don't suggest that he took steroids.

im pretty sure SI wouldnt run a story unless they were 99.9 percent sure it was true...

here's a question...did A-Rod have an injury in the late 2002 season or in 2003? b/c if he did then that would totally explain the steroid usage...

How do you think he gained all that power? Previously to joining Texas, his last 3 years he average 41.5 HR while hitting no higher than 42 HR. First year in Texas, he jumps up to 52, then 57 then 2003, the season he got busted, went back to 47, then 36 the following year with the Yanks.

From 1996-2000 = 184 HR
From 2001-2005 = 240 HR

That's a 56 HR difference. I don't think the bandbox in Texas made all that big of a difference.

Then 1999:

Dude got absolutely stacked. Sorry folks, Canseco is right again. Has he been wrong before? No, because he knows all of it. It's sad that Selig tuned his head though. And I'm not saying this because I don't like the Yankees because I do and love their tradition more, but at the same time, you can't be blind.

He's tainted and this is exactly what no one in baseball wanted. Thomas & Griffey are the ones who didn't cheat. I'd bet my life on that. Everyone else, well they all probably did.

Well, during that period (1996-2000) he missed 85 games and during the period from 2001-2005 he missed just 8 total games. That has alot to do with the 56 HR difference, not even taking into account that he can just naturally gain alot of power.

2001-2005 were his age 25-29 seasons. Those are the physical peak years for baseball players. It would be more surprising if his HR totals didn't go up. He clearly did put on weight, but that's not enough to jump to conclusions about the extent of his steroid use.

He's tainted and this is exactly what no one in baseball wanted. Thomas & Griffey are the ones who didn't cheat. I'd bet my life on that. Everyone else, well they all probably did.

Then you must not like life very much. We know very little about the full extent of steroid abuse in the league, other than that the people who have been named are varied in size, position, and skillset (contrary to the stereotype that chiseled sluggers are the primary abusers). The lesson here is no one is completely clear of implications. Not Griffey, not ARod, not David bloody Eckstein,

Also, wasnt he like 18 yrs old in his rookie year? Dude was a kid then, of course hes gonna gain power with or without steriods.

exactly i mean look at Derek Jeter when he was a rookie dude was a freaking stick and i hope to god he isnt one of the 103. Anyways i really wish this is false but i doubt it is but honestly it looks liek AROD didnt even need steroids dude hit 54 HR and 156 Rbis in 07.

Guys get bigger, but they don't put on that kind of bulk. And he has continued to increase in size since he joined the yankees...

It is disappointing, but it shouldn't be surprising.

My main point. And I posted the numbers when he became 20. The picture is from '99 when he was hitting stride.
