"We don't pride ourselves on our defense."

Post#1 » by madmaxmedia » Sat Feb 7, 2009 4:54 pm

Take a guess who said this (not too hard to figure out)-

"I think our strong suit is just being able to get up and down and see how many points we can score," Clipper [xxxxxxxxxxxx] said. "We don't pride ourselves on our defense."

WTF? I mean, even if you don't take pride in your defense, why would you say this? Unless you not only don't pride yourself on your defense, but you literally don't care about it (which I guess is not a huge revelation to most on this board regarding said player's defense.)

Do we have to guess and when someone get's it will you let us know?

My guess would be Ricky Davis
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Yeah, let's make it a game.

No, not Ricky Davis. Very good guess, if it was him I wouldn't have been surprised. Nor would I really have cared (that should give you another hint...)

I'll give 1 more hint- it's not Marcus Camby. 8-)

I was thinking it was either Ricky or Baron

I couldn't believe he had the audacity to say that when I first read the quote. He obviously couldn't have said that "we pride ourselves on our defense," but this sounds pathetic.

I am glad to say that not all of his teammates feel the same way. I'm sure a few of them including the coach will take offense to his comments when they read/hear them.

Baron is such a liability on and off the court.

Did he mean that they need to take it more seriously? I'm not a fan of our Baron has carried himself on the court this season, but I don't think he'd be dumb enough to say that the goal should be to ignore defense completely.

Well, he's right about runnin and gunnin being our strong suit. Just look at the past 2 games, we've got a lot of athleticism. And as for defense, well, we're not a very good defensive team. Camby's been awesome, but Thornton has played Matador defense at times, Z-Bo's not a defensive wiz, and you know Baron just doesn't care sometimes. So there is a lot of truth to what he's saying.

All that aside, he didn't have to say it. It just creates misunderstandings and such in the media and locker room.

Bingo! It's not like Shaq saying he doesn't pride himself on his 3-point shooting, defense is literally half the game, and it's a part of the game that is dependent on effort and determination.

It's great when half your team is on fire and you can jack up shots from anywhere and hit them (Hawks game), but what happens when it doesn't happen? This team has talent, youth, but is not really long on great shooters.

I'd be glad if Baron stopped to think before blurting some opinion like this out in the media or in public.
But he seems to do a lot of things without thinking first.
Anyway, we can pride ourselves on having Marcus Camby on the team, and his defense is definitely something to be proud of.
