bored...

Post#1 » by Grizzfan777 » Sun Feb 8, 2009 5:27 am

say we got a pick in the top 5 again but missed out on griffin...would you rather trade the pick for miami's beasley or keep it and draft hill/monroe??? Beasley is a very good player and very strong and a rebounder who would solidify our starting 5 for the next few years. Miami could use the pick to get another top tier player to help out dwade.

Meh - this is a question (IMO) that no matter how bored you are now, is better asked after the NCAA Tourney and Draft Lottery. The top of this draft is very interesting. Lots of potential to be looked at.

Hmm, that's actually a very interesting question. The question that has to be answered is this: Will Miami actually part with Beasley? He is playing well in the minutes he has gotten this year, and he figures to have a ton of upside left. With the HEAT really trade him away without knowing what they have yet in Beasley? I think he could actually be had for the right price

I think that if Memphis got a pick in the 2-5 range, and they don't think that Monroe will be a star power forward, then a possible scenario would be the Grizz drafting Hasheem Thabeet and trading his rights, along with Kyle Lowry, for Beasley. The Grizzlies fill their huge hole at power forward with a rising star in Beasley, and Miami fills it's dire need for a true center with a physically imposing, great defensive center with Thabeet. They also get one of the better backup point guards in the league in Kyle Lowry. I'm not saying that Miami would automatically accept a deal like this, simply because Beasley has a lot of star power, but I do think that they would consider it.

If the Grizz can't get Griffin in this year's draft, I think they could go many in many different directions with the pick. They could draft Greg Monroe or Jordan Hill to fill their gaping hole at power forward, they could draft James Harden, Jeff Teague or Jrue Holiday to get the guard that they are going to put next to O.J. for the future, they could trade the a package featuring the pick away for a star veteran, or they could trade it for a young, rising star (i.e. Michael Beasley).

As of today I would want Hill.

I would pull the trigger on the deal for a variety of reasons:

-We get our PF of the future, on a nice contract
-Another very good rebounder
-We get a player who has played great in the minutes he has gotten.
-A defensive+Offensive presence
-Someone who gives the team a little attitude
-Another highly marketable player
-We can focus on fortifying our bench in FA: add a guy like marvin williams, re-sign miles and warrick

If we could do that, we could potentially field a team next year of:

C-Gasol/Milicic/Haddadi
PF-Beasley/Warrick/Arthur
SF-Gay/Williams/Miles
SG-Mayo/Ross/Buckner
PG-Conley/Lowry/Jaric

-Potentially a 40-45 win team if everything goes smoothly.
