Woody apologists, come defend the man..

Johnson’s struggles in January look totally different to Woodson now that it’s become clear that Johnson’s fatigue might not have been more physical than anything else.

“He could have been sick and didn’t realize it because he had a lethargic look about him,” Woodson said. “So he could have been. And I was steady wearing him out and wearing him down with minutes.

“But my whole thing with the minutes and everybody talking about him playing too many, I was just trying to push for him to make that All-Star team. Because that to me, was extremely important for Joe, for our team and for our entire organization.”

This is just flat out inexcusable. In other words, he'd rather Joe make the all-star game at the expense of the team? Joe was obviously playing like crap in January and leading the NBA in minutes is definitely a factor in wearing him down.

Woody is saying he was pushing for him to make the ASG, it's an oxymoron because JJ's stats would probably be BETTER if he played less minutes.

Good thing Joe caught a virus so he can rest for a while, and with the ASG coming up will get more rest. Because, we know Woody won't give it to him.

This doesn't surprise anyone, does it?

Now that the Hawks have won 2 w/o Joe, you think Woody will lighten the load on his minutes?

Me neither.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of, I'm not defending that moronic move by Woody. Not to mention JJ makes the All Star team regardless of what kind of minutes he plays this season.

Its bad enough that Woody does it, but does he really not have the sense to not talk about it? I mean he doesn't sound like a professional coach with those quotes.

But, but... alot of talented young players. Woody's stregnth is that he seems to have some success at bonding the core of the team. Besides that, he's totally unqualified as a NBA coach.

Reminds me of the Sam Mitchell and Chris Bosh situation. This guy had multiple run-ins with his players, was voted worst coach in a players poll once, and would've been axed in 2005 and 2007 if not for his relationship with Chris Bosh.

Moral of the story: if you want to be a longterm NBA coach, suck up to your best players.

I was definitely confused when I initially saw the quote but just assumed that he was trying to take a little heat off Joe for the poor stretch he's having(which I think is a good move). If he was being serious then he's an idiot.

I look at this another way. Doc Rivers, even though he has always been known as a poor X and O guy, was always though of as a good motivator (and then they brough in Tommy T to be the D coordinator). To be a good motivator you have to know how to use words to push people the right way. If you are a complete (Please Use More Appropriate Word) with the media, chances are you aren't so great at using words to push peoples buttons. Could this be the reason why the team seems to always come out flat? Woody just doesn't know how to push peoples buttons?

But, but I thought our record was right about where it should be?

This has been my point the entire year and throughout Woody's tenure. It's not about record or where we *should* be, it's the fact that we aren't playing as well as we should be, period.

There is absolutely NO reason that Miami should be anywhere near us in record, they are just not that good. Detroit is completely over the hill. We should be about 5 games ahead of both of them.

^^^ So you think that would should have 32 wins right now? I think our record is right where I wanted it to be at this point.

Woody would have never made it in any other city for this long except for the incompetence of the front office. Woody is surviving this year because he does have talent, and he should with all the lottery value he has accumulated.
Woody will be here for at least the 2 years on his contract.

Those JJ comments perhaps were overblown, but to focus on one player instead of the success of the team as a whole will soon be seen. He may have worn out JJ too early in the season and there might be struggles the rest of the year. Truthfully, rest would be the best decision for JJ. Him making another all-star team is good for the city, and he deserves it, but it may impact us down the road.

I was glad despite the noshow vs. the LAC, he gave JJ only 33 min.
