Instead of Foye at the point...

Post#1 » by TDWOLVESFAN » Mon Feb 9, 2009 3:50 pm

Mike Miller ran the point against Atlanta for a few minutes last week. It was during our come back against them. He actually hit 2 of his three-pointers during that time. He is capable of running the point much better than Foye when Sebastian is out of the game. He doesn't over dribble, try to put up pathetic layups and can see the passing lanes.

He has done this in most games. Often times Foye will bring it up the floor and then give it to Miller. But this is not a new thing by any means.

This team desperately needs a PG. Bassy just makes me want to put my foot through the screen. A quality PG would allow Foye and Miller to play their natural games and we would be getting much better production from them.

MM definitely seems to enjoy being a playmaker and developing his point forward skills might help prolong his career. The problem is his ball handling seems kind of predictable - right hand right hand right hand, spin move counter.

Bassy is a decent bench pg, but he is not the long term answer. We need a starting pg on this team. I am half tempted to Start Miller next to Foye and let them work out the pg role like they have been. But Miller is not a pure pg either.

I know Miller playing the point is not new. What I saw was is he looks more comfortable there than anywhere else on the floor right now. Foye does not look comfortable playing the point.

So, I wouldn't be opposed to Miller starting there or getting significant minutes at the point, leaving Sebastian to come off the bench with the second unit. Both Miller and Telfair get into the offense with 18-20 secs on the shot clock. With Foye @ the point it is in the 12-16 sec range.

I agree, Miller is very predictable coming across the lane from the SG or SF spot. At PG he creates his own room to shoot more and looks to pass more often than Foye ever will. Foye is more predictable than Miller - dribbles down the outer right side of the lane and throws up a prayer OR doesn't even look to run a play and tries to take a 25' three and clanks it.

I don't like Gomes starting at sf, he had a solid game against the Hornets but he has some major slumps with his shooting. If Miller plays more pg Gomes will pretty much be our only sf aside from a little bit of Carney.
