2009 Free Agent pick em

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Sat Feb 7, 2009 4:59 am

I don't know if you guys did this last year, or someone planned on doing it. But I kind of copied HMFFL's regular season pick em idea, and put it into the free agency pool. If someone else had something planned, or this is not needed, feel free to delete it.

The winner with the most correct answers wins the prize (bragging rights.)

I included players that could be franchised and traded, for example, cassel and peppers. I included Anquan Boldin, who is not a FA, but is rumored to be on his way out, same with Larry Johnson, to make it to 25. Here are the top 25 in my opinion. Feel free to suggest someone to add to the list. Or take out for that matter. Retire, Stays, or a different teams name are all suitable answers.

Quarterbacks:
Matt Cassel
Kurt Warner

Running Backs:
Brandon Jacobs
Larry Johnson
Darren Sproles

Wide Recievers:
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Anquan Boldin

Offensive Line:
Jordan Gross
Matt Birk
Mike Goff

Defensive Tackle:
Albert Haynesworth

Defensive Ends:
Julius Peppers
Darnell Dockett
Terrell Suggs

Linebackers:
Ray Lewis
Karlos Dansby
Channing Crowder
Bart Scott

Cornerbacks:
Nnamdi Asomugha
Dunta Robinson

Safeties:
Darren Sharper
Brian Dawkins
Oshiomogho Atogwe

Kicker:
Rob Bironas

Punter:
Shane Lechler

This might be a little premature, as the franchise period just started, but free agency is actually right around the corner. If someone could lock this when free agency starts Feb. 27, that would be awesome.

Steven Jackson isn't a Free Agent, won't be one till 2014.

He signed a six-year, $44.805 million contract last year.

My early guesses for posterity.
Quarterbacks:
Matt Cassel -- New England
Kurt Warner -- retirement

Running Backs:
Brandon Jacobs -- Cleveland
Larry Johnson -- New England
Darren Sproles -- San Diego, but only because I think LT is gone

Wide Recievers:
T.J. Houshmandzadeh -- Philadelphia
Anquan Boldin -- Chicago

Offensive Line:
Jordan Gross -- Carolina
Matt Birk -- Minnesota or retirement
Mike Goff -- Atlanta

Defensive Tackle:
Albert Haynesworth -- Dallas

Defensive Ends:
Julius Peppers -- Miami
Darnell Dockett -- Arizona
Terrell Suggs -- Denver

Linebackers:
Ray Lewis -- Baltimore
Karlos Dansby -- New England
Channing Crowder -- Detroit
Bart Scott -- New Orleans

Cornerbacks:
Nnamdi Asomugha -- Cleveland
Dunta Robinson -- Miami

Safeties:
Darren Sharper -- Chicago
Brian Dawkins -- Atlanta
Oshiomogho Atogwe -- San Francisco

Kicker:
Rob Bironas -- Tennessee

Punter:
Shane Lechler -- Oakland

Some others and my too-early predictions:
Leroy Hill -- Washington
Ron Bartell -- Detroit
Michael Boley -- Houston
Sean Jones -- Seattle
Stacy Andrews -- Dallas
Jeff Garcia -- wherever Mark Sanchez winds up
Bryant McFadden -- Oakland
Jermaine Phillips -- St. Louis
Yeremiah Bell -- Miami
Byron Leftwich -- NY Jets
Jon Runyan -- retirement
Leigh Bodden -- Houston
Rex Grossman -- Jacksonville
JP Losman -- New Orleans

you have any info on fat albert to dallas or just guessing? also ive seen some say he's not an ideal fit for a nose tackle in the 3-4 b/c he's to tall, thoughts on that?

and why would the cowboys go after stacy andrews? are we releasing flozell? if not, it makes 0 sense, we need a backup guard if anything

Wow, everyone is saying the pats will keep cassel.

LJ I could see, by way of release though?

I would love Dansby.

He's the best in the league in terms of Pass Rush, but I'm not sure how he'd fair in a 3-4 as a gap stuffer. He's good enough, but if you were to put him in a 3-4 role, I'm not sure he'd be worth the amount that he's asking for.

it'd certainly be interesting with him and ratliff rushing the qb (especially in the agressive wade phillips 3-4) and that doesnt even consider ware on the outside and the potential of anthony spencer or bradie james up the middle. im getting excited thinking about it

I understand for a player like Haynseworth people could forgive and forget, but aren't there some players and fans out there who are still sour over the geurode incident?

Straight guess.

And Stacy Andrews is much better as a G than a T. Plus Flozell was in the bottom 10 overall starting LTs in the league last year and he's 33 going on 50. If he's not released, he probably should be.

If Albert comes in and dominates, fans won't give a **** about Gurode, haha.

Would be cool if they like, patched that up though.

God I would absolutely love if dansby was on the pats. that's my dream for the pats this offseason.

I really really hate the idea of Cassell staying on the pats. Are they that worried about Tom Brady? Or is everyone just guessing this cos the pats are unreadable and would do something like keeping him?

I just cant believe that we'd keep him instead of getting a first and a third or picking up someone to help in our secondary. The patriots have no corners. If ellis hobbs was half as good as he thought he is, he'd be a decent 2nd corner.. Merriweather is ok but he cannot tackle at all and James Sanders is o.k, i guess. But my god Delthea O'Neal needs to retire.

Agreed, if we keep Cassel, we probably couldn't even re-sign sanders.

I don't see how the Pats could bring in Dansby and LJ if they were to keep Cassel as well. Although Dansby would be great to get, I'll pass on LJ tho.

I'm starting to think salary cap issues are overrated. I'm hearing the Vikings are going to be 20+ million under the cap again for about the 6th straight year after signing Allen, Berrian and Madieu Williams last year.

Salary Cap did rise close to 20 Million last year. But I think it's expected to stay level this year, especially with the economy putting up a stinker. The year to spend was last year.

Still, it's not the first time this has happened. The Vikings signed Antoine Winfield, they were still under the cap, they signed Darren Sharper, Pat Williams, and Fred Smoot, and they were still under the cap, they signed Steve Hutchinson, they were still under the cap. The Vikings have been spending bundles of money nearly every offseason and it hasn't caused a single cap casualty.

Kind of, but mainly I'm wondering if the Vikings figured something out or if there's some factor that I'm missing. Like maybe the Vikings have more cap space because they've drafted terribly and spend less on their own players. I don't know.
