Suns tell Porter his job is in jeopardy

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Tue Feb 10, 2009 4:08 am

Found this on Bright Side of the Sun:
http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2009/ ... -his-job-i
Sources close to the Suns front office tell me that Terry Porter hasn't lived up to expectations and has been given a list of specific things to improve on. Failure to perform could cost him his job.

Many blame Porter for not maximizing the talent on the roster and for not gaining the respect of his veteran players. Reports include Barnes and Shaq ignoring him on the bench and demanding to be put back in the game or refusing to be taken out.

Porter has been unable to display the confidence needed to earn the trust of his players and in retrospect may have never had the experience and reputation to be successful in this environment.

It would not be fair however, to put all the team's woes on the head coach's shoulders. Porter has his work cut out for him trying to balance the desires and demands of his two MVPs along with a large assortment of star players both young and old. He walked into a situation where Shaq, Amare and Nash were all needing the same space to work. No coach can change the laws of physics and create space where none exists.

Steve Kerr.... Get it done!!! Fire Terry Porter tomorrow!!! Please save the rest of the season!

Don't trade Amare! If you are please wait until the offseason where we can get somewhat of an equal value.

What fantastic news. Who do we want for coach??

Avery would not fit well with this team. It would be the same crap as Porter I believe.

SVG would be interesting but if he demands a slow offense we will be in trouble.

Gentry would have the respect of the players, but only if the Suns commit to him long term. Otherwise he is a lame duck.

My interesting picks...

Tom Chambers. No coaching experience but god I love him. He would demand respect and is a no nonsense kind of guy. Charles Barkley once said he was the craziest and scariest person he's ever played with.

Eddie Johnson. The best color guy in the game would be a heck of a coach if given the chance. He understands the game and would be respected. Not a defensive guy, but has shown a lot of basketball IQ and knowledge as a broadcaster.

Didn't Kerr try that approach with Dan Toni?

is this too late? nahhh I hope it happens tomorrow.

I go with Flip, or Tom Chambers like dude said above. I can see Tom snapping on Amare for missing a rebound. That's something we need.

With all due respect to Bright Side of the Sun, I'll believe these rumors when ESPN or KTAR or the like reports them
When I breeze past, breathe fast, on point like Steve Nash

John Wooden only had coached a High School team for 2 years before becoming a college head coach.

There is only one man who can save the Suns' season if we fire Porter and we are in need of a coach, this man knows the Suns in and out and is the exact answer to all our problems....

Michael Cooper -
We ought to be playing like Showtime or the old Celtics, team d and running

or - Eric Snow? I really like his demonstrations on Gametime. Seems like a solid fundamentals guy who can communicate, though whether he would have the same problems as Porter ...

but let's face it, Sarver is going to be choked at eating nearly four years of salary, and porter is n't going to get another gig soon so we'll have to pay all of it
I think gentry gets the gig and then they trade everyone this summer.
Kerr needs to be held accountable for this

--- he definitely needs to get up a half-hour or so earlier that morning so he'll have plenty of time to fire himself, too

Al McCoy? Seriously we met him and he's a sweet old man...felt like I'd snap his hand off...got some sweet wheels though

I think Thunder Dan could be the man for the job. Most likely Gentry though

From hoopsworld post-game:

Amar'e stood by his locker by himself and fielded questions from the media. When asked what was the pinnacle point of his decision to want to leave the Suns, Stoudemire quickly answered and blame it fully on the changes over the past year.

"It really began when they made the coaching change and then it got to a point when Raja and Boris was traded away. I was upset because it felt that we were getting rid of the core group that can help us win a championship ... "I understand it is a business and I hear the trade rumors like everyone else. It is no secret that since we made the coaching change our offense have went in another direction which does not fit this team"

That's pretty blunt. And say what you like about Stat, he's right.
However, I'm sure Kerr doesn't like to hear oen of his stars telling reporters the coach his GM hired is the wrong guy for the job. That could be enough for kerr to pull the trigger
damn it

That is the man I wanted the Suns to hire. Sigh.
