Indiana Pacers starters Mike Dunleavy and Jeff Foster will each miss the team's two remaining games before the All-Star break, coach Jim O'Brien said following Tuesday's shootaround.

Dunleavy played only three minutes in Washington on Sunday before pain in his right knee forced him to the bench. The seven-year veteran is still recovering from an injury in the same knee that caused him to miss the first 34 games of the season. He experienced the pain after playing nearly 40 minutes in back-to-back games last week against Philadelphia and Orlando. Dunleavy and Foster, who is nursing a back injury, will not play in Tuesday's game against Cleveland and Wednesday's contest in Milwaukee. "Structurally, (Dunleavy is) fine," O'Brien said. "It was just more of a pain threshold from the standpoint of playing extended minutes against Orlando, so when he comes back after the All-Star break, we'll re-evaluate his minutes."

Indiana's first game after the break is February 17 against Philadelphia. "I'm optimistic (Dunleavy will) be back," O'Brien said. "If not Tuesday (the 17th), shortly after that."Dunleavy is averaging 15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists since returning to the lineup. Foster is contributing 6.8 points and 6.7 rebounds. Guard Jarrett Jack and rookie center Roy Hibbert likely will fill in as starters while Dunleavy and Foster are out.

http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/boshallstar_021009.html

The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday that forward Chris Bosh will not play in the 2009 NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix due to a sprained right knee. Bosh was selected to his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance for the Eastern Conference and has missed the last two games after spraining his right knee during the fourth quarter February 4 versus the Los Angeles Lakers. He will miss his third consecutive game tonight when the Raptors play at Minnesota. Bosh is planning to attend the All-Star festivities this weekend in Phoenix.

A product of Georgia Tech in his sixth season, Bosh leads the team in scoring (22.7), rebounding (9.5), minutes (38.2) and double-doubles (24). He has paced the Raptors in scoring on 30 occasions, including a career high-tying 42-point outing November 21 vs. New Jersey. He has led the team in rebounding 34 times, with a season-high 18 November 18 at Orlando.

Detroit (27-22) at Chicago (22-29) 8:30 p.m. EST
A meeting with the Chicago Bulls couldn't have come at a better time for Rodney Stuckey. The Detroit Pistons' point guard tries to get back on track when his team travels to the United Center for a meeting with the Bulls on Tuesday.

Stuckey has worked his way into the starting lineup this season and has flourished as the Pistons' floor general, averaging 13.6 points and 5.0 assists per game. However, the 22-year-old Eastern Washington product has been held below 10 points in three of his last four games, including Sunday's 107-97 setback to the Phoenix Suns in which he was limited to eight points and only one assist.

Stuckey can put his recent slump in the past if he can duplicate his last performance against Chicago when he erupted for 40 points during a 104-98 victory on December 23.Another outburst from Stuckey would certainly end Detroit's four-game losing streak at the United Center and lift the team to its third win in four contests overall. The Bulls are looking to rebound when they return home after closing their season high tying, seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record following a 115-114 overtime loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.

The Pistons in Chicago to take on the 22-29 Bulls. Rodney Stuckey, who’s been held under 10 points the last 4 games, isn’t putting up same kinds of performances he did the last time these two teams met. Needless to say another 40 point game would be just the medicine the Stuckey would love to swallow. Yes the Piston really are 27-22 losing 11 of their past 17 overall and are barley holding on in the in the Easten Conference standings a half of a game in front of Miami in the fifth spot and just and 13 games back of Cleveland. Something that Pistons fans aren’t quite used to. The Bulls…well they are currently outside the playoff picture, and trail the division leading Cavs by 18 games.

Good News/Bad News and More:
The Bulls are rested, they haven’t played since Saturday night.
Allen Iverson and Will Bynum are bothered by the Flu. They are questionable for tonight’s game.
The City of Detroit isn’t so bad after all. Suck it Chicago and Cleveland.
Defending Michael Curry.
The Bulls would like to get a hold of Amare too.
Rip is doing just fine, in fact he’s thriving.

Tip off is at 8:30 P.M. and will be locally televised on FSN. If you can’t watch the broadcast, tune into 1130 AM WDFN The Fan. Can’t do either? Follow the game on NBA.com.

8:30 PM ET
Chicago: 22-29 (13-10 home)
Margin: -1.9 ppg (+2.9 last 25%)
Last 10:4-6
Pistons: 27-22 (13-10 home)
Margin: -0.2 (-2.2 last 25%)
Last 10:5-5

Oppo research: The Pistons swing into Chicago in the battle of the deteriorating teams. Chicago’s strange descent from promising young team with future all-stars to overpriced lottery fodder has been astonishing. Even rookie Derrick Rose has gotten in on the act, as his strong start has settled into something hovering around “average”, having been outpaced by fellow Rookies Kevin Love, Greg Oden and Russel Westbrook. Maybe there’s something in the water. To make matters worse, the Bulls have placed Larry Hughes, who had enjoyed a mild resurgence since joining the team, on the inactives list. They are also expected to be without leading rebounder Drew Gooden. Expect, then, to see a lot of minutes for Aaron Gray and Joakim Noah. That should mean plenty of fouls from a team that ranks among the league leaders. It will be interesting to see which Tyrus Thomas shows up. He’s been solid the last three games, which means he’s due for a 2-10 shooting night. The Drama: Remember Scottie Pippen? For that matter, remember Luol Deng?

Keys for Detroit:
Get to the line:As mentioned above, Chicago’s big men are foul prone, as is Andres Nocioni. The Bulls don’t have much of a bench to turn to, so foul trouble will be very costly.
Find Stuckey: The Bulls had no answer for Rodney Stuckey (40 points) last time around, so the Pistons should look to him early and often.
Force Rose outside: When the Bulls are successful, Rose is able to get to the basket and kick it out to an array of perimeter shooters. Cut off his game, and the Bulls will tumble. Question of the game: Is it the All Star break yet? The Pistons end the first half of the season with a crescendo, playing 4 games in 5 days. They looked exhausted against Phoenix.

Allen Iverson out for tonight's game
Detroit Pistons coach Michael Curry is switching up his starting lineup once again.

Pistons guard Allen Iverson will not play tonight because of flu-like symptoms. Richard Hamilton, Detroit's leading scorer each of the past six seasons, will start.

Curry said Iverson's status will be re-evaluated prior to tomorrow night's game against Atlanta.

No AI tonight: Allen Iverson is going to sit this one out. He's stricken with the flu, as is Will Bynum and Pistons director of player development Ryan Hoover. Iverson and Hoover stayed back at the team hotel. Bynum will dress.

Richard Hamilton will start in Iverson's place.

Allen Iverson sick, won't play vs. Bulls
Allen Iverson will miss tonight's game against the Chicago Bulls with "flu-like" symptoms, Pistons coach Michael Curry said moments ago.

While the team will be playing the Bulls, Iverson will be back at his hotel room and will meet the team at the team plane for the return to Detroit later tonight.

Rip Hamilton will return to the starting lineup, and you can expect more minutes for Arron Afflalo and backup point guard Will Bynum. Iverson missed this morning's shootaround, but was expected to OK for the Bulls. Curry said a bug is going around the team, but Iverson was the only one to miss the shootaround.

Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson missed Tuesday's game against the Chicago Bulls because of flu-like symptoms.

Richard Hamilton moved back into the starting lineup to replace Iverson. The Pistons hoped to have him available for the game after he missed the morning shootaround, but the 10-time All-Star wound up staying back at the hotel. He is questionable for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Detroit coach Michael Curry said Iverson would be re-evaluated Wednesday.Hamilton was switched to a reserve role last month after returning from a groin injury that he said still bothers him.

Allen Iverson couldn’t finish the first meeting with the Bulls this season. And he’s going to miss the second one completely. The Pistons' leading scorer will not play in tonight’s game after coming down with flu-like symptoms. He is still at the team’s hotel in Chicago. “Arnie gave him some medicine. He didn’t feel no better, so Arnie just ruled him out for tonight,” said Pistons coach Mike Curry. “We’ll re-evaluate him tomorrow for tomorrow night’s game” at The Palace against the Hawks.

Iverson, the Pistons’ 2009 All-Star guard, will be replaced in the starting lineup by Rip Hamilton, who will be missing All-Star weekend for the first time in three seasons.

Hamilton has been on fire of late, averaging 21.4 points on 53.2 percent shooting from the field the last five games. Though he says the groin injury he suffered in December still lingers, playing for a longer duration tonight as a starter should help keep him loose. “With a groin it’s always hard when playing and sitting and playing and sitting,” Hamilton said before the game. “That’s toughest part of the whole situation.” When a groin injury limited Iverson to just 24 minutes against Chicago Dec. 23 – he scored a season-low five points – Rodney Stuckey stepped up, scoring a career-high 40 points. Stuckey has struggled in his last two games, scoring a combined 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting (27.7 percent).

Pistons blow 4th-quarter lead
Ben Gordon scored 24 points, including a four-point play in the final minute to give the Bulls a 107-102 win over the Pistons tonight in Chicago. With 16.7 seconds to play, Ben Gordon hit a three-pointer in the right corner to take the lead and was fouled by Rodney Stuckey. Gordon hit the free throw for the Bulls to take a three-point lead. Stuckey (16 points) was shaken up on the play, apparently hurting his right foot or ankle. On the ensuing possession, Richard Hamilton drove to the basket, but threw the ball away.

Hamilton scored 30 points off the bench for the Pistons, who were without Allen Iverson (sick). Detroit led, 94-79, with 7:30 to play in the fourth, but the Bulls went on a 20-6 run to trail, 100-99, with 1:14 remaining. After a timeout, Rasheed Wallace (20 points, 10 rebounds) was fouled and hit two free throws with 60 seconds left.

Bulls called timeout and Derrick Rose (23 points) followed with a driving layup to reduce the Pistons lead back to one with 46.1 seconds. On the Pistons' next possession, Wallace missed a three-pointer in the right corner. On the Hamilton throwaway, Rose had to leave the game after an apparently head injury. Tyrus Thomas had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls. Joakim Noah had 12 points and 16 rebounds. Tayshaun Prince scored 16.

Ben Gordon converted the go-ahead four-point play, Derrick Rose and Tyrus Thomas made strong contributions late, and the Chicago Bulls rallied to beat the Detroit Pistons 107-102 on Tuesday night. Playing their first home game since Jan. 23, the Bulls trailed 100-90 with about 3 1/2 minutes. But with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen watching, they showed some of their old mettle and finished on a 17-2 run.

The Pistons were without the Allen Iverson, who had the flu. Even so, they appeared to be in good shape. Then, the Bulls scored nine straight to make it a one-point game before Rasheed Wallace buried two free throws with a minute left, making it 102-99. But Chicago scored the final eight points. Rose drove for a layup to pull the Bulls back within one with 46 seconds left. After Wallace had to force a wild corner jumper to beat the shot clock, the Bulls grabbed the lead. The Pistons blocked a drive by Rose, but Gordon wound up with the ball in the corner and buried the go-ahead 3-pointer as Rodney Stuckey fouled him.

Both players got knocked to the court. While Gordon popped up and buried the free throw to make it 105-102 with 16.7 seconds left, Stuckey left the game. The Pistons' Richard Hamilton then drove along the right side and tried to dish off to Antonio McDyess underneath, but he couldn't handle the pass, resulting in a turnover. Andres Nocioni then hit two free throws for Chicago with 9.9 seconds left for the final score.

http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/ ... _lead.html

It was only fitting that the final play in the Detroit Pistons' 107-102 loss to Chicago on Tuesday was a pass that was thrown away. That pass, much like the game's outcome, should have been an easy one to make. But that pass, like beating struggling teams, apparently was too difficult for Detroit as Tuesday's game became the latest addition to the growing list of games the Pistons have given away this season."I can't explain that one," said Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince. "I can't explain that one if I tried."

The Pistons led by 14 points at the start of the fourth quarter and were up by 15 after a Jason Maxiell jump shot with 7:30 to play. From there, the Pistons' offense sputtered and the defense looked defenseless as the Bulls continued to attack the offensive boards which not only led to second-chance points, but also a slew of free-throw attempts. "We gave them too many offensive rebounds," Pistons coach Michael Curry said. "When we did get them to miss, they were getting rebounds." Ben Gordon converted a four-point play with 16.7 seconds to play that gave the Bulls their first lead of the fourth quarter. On Gordon's go-ahead basket, Rasheed Wallace had blocked a shot by Derrick Rose, only for Rose to grab the loose ball and pass to Gordon, who was fouled in front of the Pistons by Arron Afflalo. Trailing 105-102 after Gordon's four-point play, Detroit called a timeout. Whatever play they were looking to run out of the timeout, it never came to fruition as Richard Hamilton turned the ball over with 10.6 seconds left. Andres Nocioni made a pair of free throws with 9.9 seconds to play to seal the victory. "To be up 15 and give the game away pretty much, it's hard because we played so well for three quarters," Pistons guard Richard Hamilton said. The Pistons outplayed Chicago most of the game, even without the services of Allen Iverson. Curry announced shortly before Tuesday's game that Iverson would not play due to flu-like symptoms."Arnie (Kander, Detroit's strength and conditioning coach) gave him some medicine, and he didn't feel any better," Curry said. "So Arnie just ruled him out tonight."

Curry initially said Hamilton would start, but apparently had a change of heart shortly before tipoff and instead went with Arron Afflalo. The move worked out well for both players for most of the game. Afflalo, who has struggled recently with his shooting touch, did a solid job defensively along with scoring four points on 2-for-3 shooting. Hamilton turned in yet another strong performance in leading all scorers with 30 points. The game's disappointing ending was in stark contrast to how it started. Rodney Stuckey, who scored a career-high 40 points earlier this season against Chicago, went on the attack from the opening tipoff as Detroit opened with an 11-4 run that included seven points from Stuckey. But a slew of Detroit turnovers and foul trouble saw Detroit's lead wiped out. Detroit finished with 16 turnovers, with a number of them being careless, unforced mistakes. In the first quarter, Antonio McDyess threw the ball out of bounds on a basic inbounds play. Stuckey double-dribbled while bringing the ball up court with no pressure being applied by Chicago. The Pistons trailed 30-22 after the first quarter, with the Bulls scoring 10 points off Detroit's six first-quarter turnovers. Detroit cut down on the mistakes in the second quarter and soon chipped away at the Chicago's lead, which peaked at eight points. But a 10-4 run by the Pistons to close out the second quarter gave them a 51-50 halftime lead.

Flu hits Pistons, Allen Iverson questionable again
Allen Iverson is not the type of player who misses many games due to injuries. So the flu-like bug that kept him out of Tuesday's game against Chicago must be a doozy. "Arnie (Kander, Detroit's strength and conditioning coach) gave him some medicine, and he didn't feel any better," Pistons coach Michael Curry said. "So Arnie just ruled him out tonight."

Curry said Iverson's status will be re-evaluated prior to tonight's game against the Atlanta Hawks. Iverson was not the only player dealing with flu-like symptoms. Will Bynum was limited at the morning shootaround with a similar ailment.

Ryan Hoover, Detroit's director of player development, also reported flu-like symptoms. Like Iverson, he was not at United Center with the players and staff. Both were expected to meet the Pistons at the team plane after the game. Curry initially said Richard Hamilton, who has led the Pistons in scoring each of the past six seasons, was going to start in Iverson's absence. Instead, a last-minute decision was made to start Arron Afflalo.

Hamilton ready to rest
This weekend's All-Star game will be the first Hamilton has not participated in since 2005. Considering all that has happened to him and the Pistons this season, Hamilton is not complaining. "It's kind of a good thing that I didn't make it this year, with my groin and everything," Hamilton said.

Injuries, a new position (he went from shooting guard to small forward) and most recently, a new role coming off the bench, have all factored into Hamilton's numbers not being as good. Hamilton does not play small forward nearly as much as he did earlier in the season, and he appears to have found a nice groove as Detroit's sixth man.

The nagging groin injury that kept him out of eight games earlier this season has improved. A few days without practice or games can only help. "(The All-Star break) gives it an opportunity to rest, rest and get away from the game and let my injuries heal," Hamilton said.

Wallace vs. father time
Rasheed Wallace has been playing a lot more lately. But he will be the first to tell you his body cannot withstand the rigors of logging major minutes the way he used to.

"At this stage of my career, it beats your body up a little bit," Wallace said. "But you just have to get more rest, hit that hot tub, cold tub more."

In Detroit's past five games, Wallace has averaged 39.2 minutes per game, which is well above his season and career averages. On Tuesday, Wallace played more than 33 minutes.
