This Weeks Most Overrated

Post#1 » by TheBrothers » Tue Feb 10, 2009 5:11 am

I play the Big East, and my most glaring weakness is that I am 18th in assist-to-turnover ratio, and that's just out of the PG in the NCAA! Now while I do average 5.9 assists, which puts me 8th among PGs, I am 15th in Assists-to-Field Goals Attempted at .51. That is not where you want your NBA ready PG to be on the list, and since I am not a great space creater and I dont shoot a very high percentage, what do I bring to court? I also only shots 35.6% beyond the arc, on only 3.8 attempts a game, way out of the top 25 amongst PGs.

Who Am I??

This is not as easy as the Bryant one, but I am going to guess Jonny Flynn? If so, he is really more of a shooting guard in a point guard's body. He lacks some true point ability, but he can sure score the rock.

My first guess would be Flynn also.

After that, Deonta Vaughn (but I don't think he gets that many assists) or Dominic James (except I don't think he takes that many FGs).

Maybe Tory Jackson? Anyway, what was the answer to this?

LOL at Johnny Flynn as the most overrated. Get a clue and actually watch the games.

Maybe he has less assists because he plays alot with Eric Devendorf, Andy Rautins and Paul Harris?

Devendorf was the PG the year before Flynn arrived. He will run the point in alot of sets. Rautins play PG for Team Canada, and is also used as point in various sets. Paul Harris handles the ball alot more then most 3/4's.

Syracuse has the 19th most efficient offence in the country, and they are amonst the national leaders in team assists. Yeah, the lead point must really run the offence really poorly to get those results.

In the future please take the time to understand the context of certain advanced statistics (which comes from actually knowing how teams play). A statistic in itself is not a basis for making a good conclusion. Understanding the statistic, and determining if there are factors that could weaken the validity of such statistic, is the only basis for making a good conclusion.

It's not that he gets less assists... more than anything he gets too many turnovers. Too often he tries to do too much offensively, driving out of control or trying to thread the needle with a poor pass.

He's a heck of a player, just needs to work a little on his decision making.
