semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
Apparently he's going to inform the Jets of his intention to retire. In other news, the sun came up this morning....

Yea...whatever. Thanks for the offseason from hell and the 3rd rounder. Happy trails.

Don't the Jets receive a 4th rounder or something?
I think there was a clause if Favre only played one season that the Jets would receive a late round draft pick.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
That sounded familiar, so I did some quick research...
"Schefter reports if Favre were to retire after the first year and the Packers got the Jets' first-round pick, then the Packers would send the Jets a fifth-round pick in 2010. If the Packers get the Jets' second-round pick, the Jets would get back the Packers' sixth-round pick in 2010. If the Packers get the Jets' third-round pick, the Jets would get back the Packers' seventh-round pick in 2010. Additionally, in the scenario in which the Packers would get the Jets' first-round pick, Favre must play in at least 50 percent of one playoff game for Green Bay to get that compensation."
So, since we're getting their 3rd rounder, it looks like they get our 7th next year. I hope we win the Super Bowl so the 7th rounder they get from us is appropriate - Mr. Irrelevant.

Some interesting stuff that I personally haven't heard before. And it sounds like they did discuss him being cut and moving to another team, but the Jets declined. Opens up a little more about the past offseason and his motivation to comeback.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
"They sent me to New York because they didn't play the Jets, they were 4-12, so they didn't have to play me, they knew we had very little chance of making the playoffs and they knew it was not likely that we'd have a better year than they did,'' Favre told Werder. "I was aware of all of that and more than up to the challenge because they felt they were shipping me off to Siberia and they'd never hear from me again. So was I coming back to play because I loved the game or to prove them wrong? Probably a little bit of both.
First and last time anyone ever compares New York city to Siberia. Haha.

So now the Jets are forcing him to retire by not releasing him so he can play for the Vikes.

Sounds like he has been having e-mail conversations with ESPN guys. And, he told them he was going to retire before anybody else...
Media whore.

I could see him signing with a playoff team during the season if they lose their starter. I hope Mark Murphy offers Brett that media package again.

I'll believe it when the season starts and Brett has not changed his mind (again) or the Vikes don't get him some how.

He is still under contract. He can't sign with anyone else at any time.
Now we can retire his jersey next year and move on.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
As much as I also want them to mend the fences, retire the jersey next year, etc. I would be very surprised if any of that happens next season. I think its in Favre's court more or less and I don't know if the wounds are healed on his side. Maybe if Thompson was gone it would happen, but there is definite dislike b/w the two (obviously). I just don't see Favre being receptive to discussions with the Pack right now.
For some reason I don't think this story is going to be over. The Packers are going to keep bugged with questions about the number retirement, and you know the rumors are still going to be out there for him returning. If the Jets aren't satisified with Clemens, the Jets may try to pursuade him back. Who knows?
Hope its over. Been fun, but time to move on.

Statement from the Packers:
"Congratulations to Brett on a remarkable career. The Packers organization wishes him and his family well. Brett always will hold a special place in Green Bay Packers history, and we remain committed to retiring his number at an appropriate time in the future."

Fifth time is the charm? We'll see. I will admit that when I saw the headline 'Fave to Retire,' I laughed.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
Great career, legendary is one word to describe it. I know he put us all through hell last off-season but he was the best quarterback we've had in a long, long time(probably ever) so you have to respect that. I know he's a media whore, I know he was very selfish. But you guys can't honestly tell me that you won't stand up and cheer for him when he gets his jersey retired. If you are there or not. Bye Brett, just don't change your mind again.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
Please tell me why this was great?
I have a problem with the people that throw them selves at Brett's feet, just as I do to the people who take the other side and only focus on the neg.
This guy obviously feels that int's are the key stat. He fails to mention that Brett has more wins than anyone, and never missed a game.
For the man who has the most passes thrown, you're going to have a higher number of int's. For someone who played as many games as brett did, you're going to have your share.
He is a risk taker. If he didn't take those risks he wouldn't have as many int's, but he probably won't have as many wins, and TD's.
This guy is a idiot who in no way means what he just wrote. He wrote it to get noticed, and get people to come to that podunk site.
Crappy artile. Just like if Madden wrote a love story, that would be = as crappy.

Re: semi-OT: Favre to "retire" - again...
It wasn't that good of an article, just a guy who wants to get some attention for saying something against the grain.
Hell, Cy Young has more losses than any pitcher in history, I don't think anyone argues against his greatness because of it.
