Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
I really like this kid.
19 yr old PF/C 6"11 with a huge wing span and a very polished game for his age.
I think he could grow another inch or two and be a beast. Very good passer like love and good looking jumper.
Could provide insurance on Jefferson too.
Yay or nay?

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
disagree... we need find either an upgrade at the point guard position or an athletic big (with length) to compliment Big Al and Love.... whichever the draft allows us to get....but both are important. we are a very short and unathletic team right now, so I would put a priority on length and athleticism no matter what position it is.
Greg would be cool with me. I would want to see his measurements though. If he is a legit 6'11 (6'10 w/o shoes) and has a standing reach over 9 ft than it would vault him to the top of my list. His skill set does fit with either love or jefferson. He can block some shots and shoot a J....kind of reminds me of a less messed up Eddie Griffin.
Another option is BJ Mullens. I hear he is coming out this year no matter what due to family financial issues. I think he will fall to at least our Miami pick. He has a lot to learn, but his a legit 7 footer and has some good offensive skills, but D is a problem.
Lastly, if both Thabeet and Monroe are available at our pick (probably betweeen 4-7), I would pick Thabeet just because 7'3 with athleticism is tough to pass up. If we play primarily zone defense and let him just roam the paint, he would be significant upgrade. Monroe can do a little of everything, while Thabeet can do one thing better than most people in the NBA right now....block and alter shots. I am still interested in Jerome Jordan as well with our celtics pick.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
We need a defensive point guard. We will get nowhere with Telfair.
Look at how better defensively Denver got with just the addition of Chauncey Billups, and how worse the Pistons got with a scorer in Iverson.

I'm in the camp that is against drafting a big. Wolves need a scoring wing or a point.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
I would not go with a big in this years draft with our own pick. I'd much rather have a pg or Harden.
We can go with Mullens with the Miami pick if he is available or trade up if not. But as our pick will probably be in the 1-5 range and I think these big men won't be a force in nba I'd rather have a backcourt player.
Especially since Monroe seems to be a PF in the nba, there seem to be more options to grab a solid point guard (Rubio, Holiday, Jennings) than a C. We can afford to play with Al, Love and Smith up front but can not afford to play with Telfair and Foye in the backcourt. ---> Draft a pg/sg . I like Telfair but he should not be the first point guard of any nba team. He could be here in europe but not in the nba.
Alternatively we could just pull a deal for Mike Conley. I don't know what the Grizzlies would want for Conley, maybe we would have to involve a 3rd team to get this deal done.
Conley
Foye
Brewer
Love
Jefferson
This team looks VERY good if you have a relatively big guard (I assume we will suck for the rest of the season because AL is out --> high pick) coming of the bench and sign a defensive minded big C or wait for Pekovic to come to us. That line-up is still undersized but more competitive.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
I've seen Monroe listed at 6'10", which so were Jefferson and Love before the combine, so I fear he'll come in at 6'9" barefoot, and that doesn't help the Wolves. If we're seriously in the position to get Monroe, who'll probably go top 5, I hope we seriously consider Harden or Holiday first.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
I think we need a guard as much as a big...so we should draft the BPA that fit either option.
Jennings is crizznap by the way. He is smaller version of bayless. Kind of actually reminds me of Telfair. He thinks he is much better than he is. Rubio is not coming out this year. So that leaves Harden (Another 6'4 combo guard...which could work with Foye) or Holiday and perhaps Teague. None of those excite me that much other than Harden.

Agreed on all that, although I very much like Holiday and Tyreke Evans, and would prefer us to STAY AWAY from Teague.

Doesn't the Evans bandwagon get sort of derailed with the prospect of us improving our draft position considerably?

Yeah, you're a little late.

Tyreke Evans will see his draft position rise greatly throughout the season as he shows how good of a point guard he is, especially if he has a nice tourney run. I take him over the guys supposedly ranked higher than him; Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, or Jeff Teague.

I kind of expect Evans to take a jump in the draft status since his move to PG.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
If we are top 5 (likely), I like Harden or Holiday (Jrue is a better fit) - assuming Rubio doesn't declare. Top 5 seems a little high for Evans or Thabeet at this juncture.
I sure wouldn't mind Mullens at 17 or Jordan at 30. If we get another big, I want him to have some legit height and athleticism. We have enough shorties on this team.

I'm liking Jerome Jordan a lot. I'd love to get him with the Boston pick. We need them to tank just a little. He'll probably go 21-25.

Re: Would drafting Greg Monroe be redundant
RC-do you think the Pistons are bad because maybe they traded for a washed up vet who chucks on a team that is built around teamwork? I don't think the philosophies of the two point guards is a good argument. The Pistons traded Billups for an expiring more or less. The have Stuckey waiting in the wings and he's the one who matters, not Iverson. Stuckey is an offensive point guard.
Harden is not 6'4. He's def bigger than that btw.

My money says McHale drafts Singler or Budinger.
My Kobe Bryant website I designed myself: http://personal.stthomas.edu/dnnguyen/kb24.

7 - Singler
18 - Budinger
28 - Hansburough
We'd end up with the whitest team ever, and no athleticism.
C - Love/Madsen
PF - Jefferson/Hansburough
SF - Miller/Singler/Cardinal
SG - Budinger/Brewer
PG - Foye/Telfair
I think we'd get kicked out of the league.
