Would Cavs Fans become Knicks fans?
if Lebron were to pack his bag and leave Cleveland for NY. If you're Cavs fan right now, would you see yourself root, at least midly, for the Knicks if they get Lebron? Serious question.
In fact, this would apply to any team that Lebron lands in.

I'm a Knicks fan and a LeBron fan, so I would probably continue to be a Knicks fan.

As a cavs fan I am insulted by this question. You assume an entire fanbase doesnt care about its team. Jesus christ its not like if lebron leaves our team is moving or anything. We would continue to root for our players. Just because cleveland is one of the worst cities in the country doesnt mean its residences dont love it and call it home.

Look, I don't mean to insult anybody. We all know a good portion of an elite team's fanbase only follows the team because of the star player (s). Call them Lebron James fans or not, but they also make up the current Cavs fanbase. I'm just curious if he left the team, would a good portion of the Cavs fans pick up New York as sorta of a side team to watch. You don't have to abandon the Cavs to like the Knicks.

No. We would hate LeBron more than anybody has ever been hated before in the world of professional sports.

Believe it or not but most of us were Cavs fans before LeBron.

20 years later, and people are still sleeping on Price/Harper/Nance/Daugherty, I see.
I'm surprised we haven't seen "There were Nuggets fans before Melo? Who is this Alex English you speak of?"

This is priceless coming from a guy that says his favorite team is the Lakers but the Celtics are his second fav team. I asked you how that could be and you said you lived in Boston and watch the C's but really became a huge fan of the Lakers when they went on their title run w/kobe-Shaq. lol So, if Kobe left what would YOU do?
I myself route for the front of the jersey, not the back!

It was a joke man. I thought that was obvious by the silly emoticon. I remember that old Cavs team. They were fun to watch and I thought Price was really underrated. Craig Ehlo FTW!

I think 90% of knicks fans are Cav fans since their team is horrible and they are on the Cavs wagon cause of Lebron, so Im sure they will move to the next team that sign Lebron even if it happens to be the Clippers.

Hi, proud bandwagoner here...
Probably mildy, very mildy, I really don't like the Knicks and Lebron would sink quite considerably in my eyes if he really left to the Knicks with no apparent reason other than "being in the biggest market".
On the other hand I would still follow the Cavs since I like the fanbase and I just got used to it. I would have to change my nickname though...lol. Probably also find another player to root for, Ricky Rubio comes to mind, I hope he won't be a Knick, too.

What was the Cavs attendance and fanbase prior to Lebron. I seem to remember empty buildings before Lebron but I could be wrong.

No... not even a chance.
I am a fan of LeBron... but I am a fan of the Cavaliers first...
That's like asking would we root for the Ravens...after Art moved them from Cleveland.
Really dumb question...seriously.

Sort of like the Knicks... after you subtract the local celebrities looking for a night out.

No...I've been a Cavs fan since the Miracle of Richfield Days. There have been some good times like during the Price, Daugherty, Nance era but...
It was lonely before LeBron showed up..hopefully he won't leave. I'm honest enough to admit I don't know if this franchise could survive if he left especially in this economic environment.

Re: Would Cavs Fans become Knicks fans?
I don't mean to sound negative here, but this question is just stupid. Cleveland is not exactly some fly by night pseudo-sports town with a ton of transplants and a short sports history.
Cleveland has a lot of problems but a lack of passion for its sports teams is not one of them. LeBron did not create Cavs fans-- he created LeBron fans. The LeBron fans will go, just as the Kobe fans will follow him wherever he goes. And, frankly, nobody in Cleveland cares about the LeBron fans.
Although obviously there are quite a few of these LeBron fans, they do not make up as great a percentage of "Cavs fans" as you might think. The Cavs fans have existed at least since the days of Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance, Lenny Wilkens, etc., and grew up watching those teams year after year after year. Although they were under the radar, the Cavs were one of the three or four top eastern conference teams of the 90s, only to be snubbed by the Bulls far too often. Although the Cavs struggled in the 3 or 4 years immediately preceding LeBron, to suggest that the team had always sucked (and therefore had no fans or any real history) is just plain ignorant. The Cavs fans are the same fans who sell out every Browns game (in spite of the fact the team currently sucks and hasn't shaken the expansion rust) and who sold out 455 consecutive Indians games, and who (overall) could not give a damn whether LeBron stays or goes as long as we still have Joe Tait. If LeBron wants to stay, then he is welcome to be a part of the history and help us win a championship. Win or lose though, he will be embraced as a native son and cherished forever. If he wants to go, however, so be it. But not only will Cavs fans not follow him, they will place him on the most hated "public enemy" list right above John Elway and right below Art Modell. His number will never get retired and he won't be coming "home" too often, I'm sure. But, in any event, we will still have our team.
This might be a legitimate question for fans in other cities with great players who don't care about their teams, but Cleveland should not even be in that conversation. If your question was more directed to the "new" Cavs fans who don't live in Cleveland and only want to follow the glitz and glamour that LeBron brings, then I apologize, but you should have worded your question better. But if your question was directed to the Cleveland sports fans who lived through Red Right 88, the Drive, the Fumble, the Shot, the Move, the 2007 World Series, and the Boozer Incident (why doesn't that have a name?) and intended to question their heart and their loyalty to their team, then the answer is "No, Cavs fans would not become Knick fans."
