Post#1 » by S.I.C. GM » Tue Feb 10, 2009 5:07 pm

Here is the first of many to come before the Deadline

McGrady and whatever works for Simmons, Swift and Najera

Line up of

Harris
VC
McGrady (part time) Hassel (most of the time)
Whoever until Yi comes back.
Lopez

McGrady comes off the books or we trade him next year.

Houston probably won't trade T-Mac for less that superstar value, even though he's on his last legs right now. Obviously, I'd love to do a deal like this (I'd even swap Najera for Sean), but that wouldn't cut it for the Rockets. They'll cross their fingers that he can return to form before pawning him off in a trade like this. BARE MINIMUM, If Tracy demanded a trade, they could at least get an expiring and a pick, like Szczerbiak/1st or Raef/1st from either the Cavaliers or the Blazers. That's still a ton better than the offers you've outlined, SIC.

whats the point of getting mcgrady? hes been on far better teams than the nets current team and could never get out of the first round. now you might say, well he was in the western conference at a time when the west the better conference, but if the nets make the playoffs our most likely matchup would be vs cleveland, orlando or boston.... mcgrady doesnt help the nets get past any of those teams.

I don't understand why we can't send an expiring (not like Stro would show up due to his family issue) and maybe 1 player (see: Swat) who would interest them or GSW's 1st for Artest. Houston is going nowhere, I don't think it's wise to add salary if I were them. I'd try to get just a young player with upside (they don't have a guy like Sean on their roster) or a pick for him. Artest comes in here, done at the end of the year. He's a local guy from the city, he stated before he was traded last year he was just looking for the full MLE. I wouldn't mind locking him up for 3-4 years. He's 29 and will be 30 at the start of next season. If we move Najera, we should still have room to land a tier 2 guy or fill out our bench with 2 above average rotation guys.

Rambling now, but I don't think Artest for 30 guys is worth giving up Vince.

Artest himself is expiring :D

Your proposal is basically replace Artest with Sean/pick for Rockets, by doing that, it means they have to give up the season, possible?

Yeah but acquiring Artest makes us a playoff team. Not saying we'd do damage there, but from everything written about the Nets in the past week, it sounds like they want to make the playoffs for financial reasons and to give the young guys confidence.. Granted, I think they can possibly make the playoffs with the team they have, but they actually could possibly be competitive instead of getting blown out by the better teams like they normally do.
