I think Porter will be fired if the Suns lose tonight. If they don't, I think he stays.

silas as an assistant im fine with, i dont think he is head coach material

whilst i dont like either as far as styles go - i think avery and JVG are great options, JVG especially

suggestions like edddie johnson and tom chambers are crazy.

alvin gentry cant go from being the "players coach" who is everyones best friend as an assistant to then being the authoritarian head coach that would be required with this team - so honestly, there isnt alot of options left....

In a way, I hope the Suns lose so Porter gets fired. If they win against a great team, Kerr will think he should stay.

The problem has been consistency. Sometimes they look great, sometimes they look awful. It's been happening all season.

But even if the Suns win, I hope Kerr realizes it's mainly because Pavlovic and West are injured and didn't play, not because of Porter's great coaching or anything.

Porter is a joke.

His system sucks and I can't believe Kerr thought his system would be a good fit for this team.

He's the ONLY one who doesn't realize that his "pass the ball to Shaq all the time" system sucks.

Just tell Shaq to play defense and to rebound. That's it. STOP MAKING HIM SUCH A BIG PART OF THE OFFENSE.

He's not getting any lift on his shots these days and he shouldn't have played against Philadelphia. That was a good time to rest him.

The Suns should get rid of him because he just doesn't fit in with what this team does best which is to play up-tempo.

He was a bad fit from the beginning; I knew right away the players wouldn't respect him because he hasn't come close to achieving what D'Antoni did.

He got fired after just two years in Milwaukee and those teams were AWFUL defensively and Kerr thought the players would respect him?

When you also consider he's still really young, I'm not surprised by this.

A more experienced and proven coach was needed for this veteran team.

I feel bad for Terry, but I thought it was a mistake for him to be offered this job, and a mistake for him to take it. He was on the outs, and would have been lucky to get the Memphis job, and he gets PHOENIX? I wanted Terry to get a chance, but not with that roster. That roster needs results now, not a coach who has to try to learn and grow. Awful fit, both sides should have said no. It's more understandable why TP said yes though, I mean even if it's a bad fit you can't turn down your only coaching chance. But that Phoenix team didn't need to hire a guy who had no other options.

the thing is, he was the most experienced coach we interviewed wasnt he (as far as head coaching goes?)

budenholzer, majerle, and any other assistant would have had an even harder time too

Yes, he was the only one who had Head-Coaching experience. But I think being Greg Popovich's lead assistant also commands respect. (Mike Budenholzer)

But if they picked Porter because of his head-coaching experience, why not a more proven coach like Jeff van Gundy or Flip Saunders?

Porter was never even a candidate for any of the other jobs and he was probably only a candidate because of his friendship with Kerr.

Porter is still young, so there's a chance he will learn and improve and I hope he does soon.

But when you hear about all the unhappy players and the rumor that even some of the assistant coaches absolutely hate him, it makes you wonder why he still has a job.

Hubie Brown!

He wont take crap from anyone.

Has been preaching team defense and hustle for the last 128 years.

Commands more respect than anyone in the biz.

Loves Barbosa.

Is one of the more clever BBall minds in the biz.

Knows exactly what this team can do.

The guys record speaks for itself, IMO he is a great option. If you take out his first 3 years in the early 80's where he coached the San Diego Clippers he has a combined record of 277 - 232 at a win percentage of .544. Couple this with the two facts that he had average teams and he is a big mans coach then it is a win.

He has had one losing season since those first 3 years and well this is why. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CLE/2004.html

But anyways, all this aside, I still don't see him being the coach and that we will be stuck with Porter.

I agree with you that EJ is a little crazy but he knows the Suns well and seem to know what it takes to win.

As for proven coaches, I would take JVG over Avery. Avery is like a dictator and he's so tight with set plays there would be no room for creativity from Nash and Amare.

I don't see how Gentry making the change to HC would affect his coaching. D'Antoni was far from an authoritarian HC and still did well. He knows the Suns better than most other candidates and was there when D'Antoni had his success so he knows what works and what doesn't. For me, I'd take an in-house promotion over some guy who did assistant coaching for a team with a complete different style. In terms of HC experience, Gentry and Porter was comparable. Gentry would be my guy to replace Porter.

Like Tastic said,

Fire Porter/Keep Amare/Go Suns!
