He's not going anywhere any time soon. Maybe after a 2-25 start. At that time we can open the official Fire JP thread. It worked to get rid of Smitch with the Raps.

It's only a matter of time, IMO. Ricciardi, for all the flack he gets, at least makes some MLB moves during the off-season. However, all of the moves he's made this off-season have been minor league deals (Loewen, Clement, Barrett, Maroth, etc). I am getting the impression that the roster is more or less "frozen" now that Burnett is gone, and once the new president is announced, that's when JP's fate will be decided.

The organization as a whole has probably written off 2009 completely. I would be very surprised if Ricciardi still has a job after the new president is announced.

Everyone thought I was crazy when I joked we should fire Gibbons and replace him with the M.I.A Cito Gaston. The guy managed us to two world series championships, so why not right? Anything had to be better than Gibbons, a guy who got into fights with players and was generally disliked by them.

So why not bring back the GM who was there during our two big years? Yes, Pat Gillick is 71 years old and retired from GM duties with the Phillies (currently an advisor with them) but who knows, maybe he'd be swayed to come for another year or two.

If that sounds too far-fetched, then I'm pretty much going with - anyone but J.P.

Well about 1001 people have taken credit for dreaming up Cito....
Gibbons was generally liked - a player's coach. (but not by Shae or Ted)
Gillick has made it clear he is not coming back.

This year will be rough. Mostly because of our division. I still look forward to watching Doc, Janssen, Rios, Hill, Lind and Snider. All for different reasons.

As to JP, he can go. I don't harbour the hate most people do, mostly because I think the biggest mistake and the biggest millstone around this teams neck ("VDub" and his ridiculous contract) is not JP's fault. He never wanted to re-sign Wells for that, but was pushed by Godfrey and higher ups for PR/marketing reasons. Not a decision based on skill or true value - only to prove that we can keep our "star" players and familiar faces. Bogus deal.
That said, JP has been around long enough and has not been nearly as creative as he could have been or promised to be.

Joked - As in joking. I was as surprised as most people when we signed him. Gibbons gets in a fight with Lilly, the whole ordeal with Shae, and he's generally liked by the rest? I don't know about that. I still feel that if you discreetly polled them they'd sing a different tune about him. Moot point though since he's long gone and can only bug us down in Florida.

I'm bracing for the worst this season so I can pleasantly surprised when guys like Hill, Lind, and Snider come up big (hopefully). Going to be painful to watch Doc. He wants to win so bad, and eventually we'll have to let him go to greener pastures if we can't make a serious run at the playoffs.

My biggest problem with JP isn't that he made a few bad trades/signings, it's that he hasn't done any really good ones.

JP should have been canned by the end of last season. I don't see what good keeping him around will bring the team, and not sure what management sees in him.

well i just realized that he has been .500 as a gm for us. Could have been worse in terms of that but his drafting is just beyond horrible. I wouldn't have problems with him if he knew how to develop a team.

JP is friggen garbage. Every time he signs someone its a reclamation project. He sees guys exceed expectations one year, then signs them at an "under-value" contract hoping for them to overachieve again. It happens continually.

This off season has been bad even for JP's low standards. I don't know how this guy has managed to keep his job this long.

Wow- 1 measly game over .500 in 7 seasons. I can't believe hes' been around that long. Hill needs to play short, Snider and Lind need to play, Rios needs to lead off and Wells need to pull his head out of his ass and show up this year (20+ homers and 90+ RBIs with a .280+ average is not worth 126 mil- not even close). Hopefully the World baseball classic will give him a jump start. It would be nice for Rolen to be Rolen this year as well, not to mention Overbay as well.

Coming off concussion problems, let him stick with 2B.

Snider and Lind need to play,

They will.

Rios needs to lead off

Cito is trying to turn him into a 30+ HR hitter, so no.

Production like that is all Vernon Wells has ever done... It's not his fault he's overpaid.
