SI has reported A-Rod tested positive for steroids in 2003, at that time there was no punishment for the use of it. I don't know if I'm shocked at the fact that he may have taken it, or the fact of how many
"legendary" players are not longer so legendary.

I'm honestly kind of sick of this. They get tested posisitive during the time that steroids are against the rules, fine. But if they did it before it was, who cares?
You mean to tell me that Barry Bonds who was crazy skinny in his early career and then bulked up to look like The Incredible Hulk later on, used steroids? No ****!
All of a sudden guys that had been hitting 20 Hrs a season or less were knocking out 40+ like it was batting practice.
You didn't exactly have to be a genius to figure this stuff out.

^Steroids were against the rules as of 1991, so I'm not sure what kind of point you are trying to make here. The notion that steroids only recently became against the rules is a common misconception, but just plain wrong.
There was no punishment for this test result because it was meant to be a confidential test intended as a "feeler" for the MLB to determine whether they needed to start mandatory testing. In other words, at this time, it was against the rules but they didn't really have the means to enforce it.
Mandatory testing came much later.
But yeah, this didn't impact or surprise me much. Its become increasingly clear that a large percentage of great players were on steroids. Thats been known for a while now.

I didn't know that.
Either way. I'm just waiting for some player to be honest the very first time they are asked about the subject. "Yeah, I did it. I made a mistake, what else can I say?" Would get a HOF vote if it I could vote for that.

^Along those same lines, does anyone here actually believe he only did it for 3 years as he now claims?
Personally I think the best lies are the ones that make you look bad. He won't insult anyone's intelligence by saying it was a B2 supplement, or that he only did it once, or that he took something not knowing what it was, but this in between ground is still preferable to admitting that he got a large portion of his massive home run total while on the stuff.
I'm skeptical.

I do believe he only did it three years because it was first reported that he was positive for one test in 2003, so I give him kudos for saying that he did use it for more then it was reported. I honestly don't think it should effect any of there hall of fame statuses, I look at it like this. Even though most players did it, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Alex Rodriguiz are all skilled players who were able to take advantage of the stuff they should not have been doing, but hey, nothing can be done about this steroid era, I'm in high school and I'm possible a future pro basketball player and I know guys who are stronger and faster then me because of steroids but I would never use it, I wouldn't feel accomplished.

If A-Roid and Bonds make it to the hall of fame than Goddammit, Pete Rose should be inducted too. Cheating your way to the top is alot worse than betting on games after your career is over.
I don't think most players were taking steroids, I just think the players taking steroids had alot of success during this period and that's why it's making such big waves. It's also why it's affecting ALOT of records. It's a disgrace to the game. They are a disgrace to the game.

Thats just it, though.
The most effective lies are the ones that make you look bad, but not as bad as you really are.
By admitting to 3 years he manages to make people think they know all there is to know while at the same time not casting doubt on his ENTIRE career. I think theres an excellent chance he was using in Seattle AND in New York, not just in Texas.

I never thought about it like that, honestly I'm just sick of hearing this stuff, it is what it is but it sells so it won't go away media wise.
