Houshmandzadeh appears open to playing for Bears

Receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, one of the top targets in free agency, was on the Waddle and Silvy show on WMVP-AM 1000 on Wednesday. Here are some of his responses to questions from hosts Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman regarding the Bears:

On whether or not he is interested in "the offer" that Tom Waddle made to him about possibly coming to the city of Chicago and playing for the Bears:

"Yeah, they have to be interested first. If you worked in the front office, or you were a tight end, we could really talk, but I don't know how much that's going to do for me to say I'm interested or I'm not interested."

On whether or not he has narrowed it down to a small number of teams that he would like to go to as a free agent:

"I haven't narrowed it down because I don't know who's interested and who's not interested. So, once you get a feel for who would be interested, then you begin to look at the roster; look at the offensive coordinator and the coaches and the quarterback, and things of that nature."

Well, sure he's going to say he's open. Smart is the free agent that keeps his options open. The more suitors, the more your price goes up.

I don't see it happening for the Bears and Housh. He'll be 32 going into next season - I'm betting we go WR in Rd2 and pick up a lesser WR FA. It's a bad year to be looking for WR help in free agency.

He reminds me too much of Moose. About the same age, probably best days are behind him. He would probably cost about the same too. I just don't think the Bears are going to go down that road again.

I see us signing a cheaper guy like Furrey and drafting a WR in round 1 or 2.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment here. He will be overvalued due to the lack of other quality receivers and he'd probably struggle to get open consistently considering Chicago's other receivers.

Cliff Levingston didn't realize he was that old. Indeed, scratch him off the list.

Antonio Bryant might not be a bad pickup considering his outstanding second half of the season but Cliff Levingston fears that he performed in the infamous "contract year."

lol

Philadelphia Daily News - During an interview with Mike Missanelli on ESPN 950 in Philadelphia, T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he could potentially be interested in playing in Philadelphia.

"If the Eagles are interested in me, let's put it like this. If they'll be interested in me, I'll be interested in them," he said when asked if the Eagles would be his top choice.

"I think McNabb is a fine quarterback," he said. "He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league, probably, I can't even think of another quarterback that has performed throughout his career the way he has and would be put in a situation like he was put in in Baltimore, but he bounced back very well."

Ummm.. its like all he did was change Bears to Eagles...

Housh was talking up Rex Grossman, too, during the Waddle interview so now I question his sanity. It's just not a match given how much he's going to be looking for.

We should only go after Housh, if it's because Chad Johnson wants him on the other side of the field with him.

Hous definitely reminds me of Moose. I agree with the sentiment to sign a lesser FA and draft a WR in the second round. But we definitely need a #1 WR and a #3 WR wouldn't hurt either.

I would get him so that when Boldin becomes available, the Bears have an actual WR on the team that would actually be anywhere near NFL quality. Beggars can't be choosers and though Housh is aged, he has been fairly consistent and I see him having a Marvin Harrison type career (who was 36 this year by the way) and can still get open and catch the ball.

But alas, some other team (looking at you Philly) is going to give him a TON of money for five years and watch him sign there.
