Joe Johnson: All-Star H-O-R-S-E

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Feb 13, 2009 3:38 pm

I'd love to see Joe win this, but it's going to be difficult against Kevin Durant, OJ Mayo and etc.

Does anyone know who all the participants are?

I'm pretty sure it's just those three guys. It will be interesting to watch, I hope they get fancy.

Yeah it's just Mayo, KD, and Joe. I'm looking forward to watching that one, as well as Bibby in the 3-pt contest.

Win or lose I hope Joe puts on an impressive show (all 3 actually). I really want this event to succeed because it has good entertainment potential.

I was curious because when it first was being discussed I remember hearing Kevin Garnett being mentioned and Dirk. I actually thought it was Dirk vs. Kevin Garnett, but I don't believe that's the case, so I think it's only the three players. I guess it was being tossed what type of system should be used.

The H-O-R-S-E game will air live during TNT’s two-hour Inside the NBA (5 - 7 p.m. ET) on Saturday, February 14.

I agree Sheed would have been an interesting competitor, but I think they were trying to keep their cost down and only tried to recruit players who were already in All-Star Weekend activities.

JJ's opponents should already get 'H" for that halfcourt bomb he just nailed in practice.

TNT blew it with the joke prize. They should have had something that would have made people wanting to compete in the future.

As for the event . . . not bad, but the format needs tweaked. Order meant everything. After seeing it play out, I think that each round should have each player getting to originate a shot and both opponents being forced to make it.

For instance, Durant shoots a three, if it goes OJ and Joe have to make it. Joe makes a lefty layup, OJ and KD have to make it. OJ makes a Rick Barry FT, Joe and KD have to make it. You miss and the others don't have to take the shot, you miss someone's make you get a letter. Round ends. Max. 9 tries of 3 shots, Min 3 tries of separate shots. Max. you get 2 letters in the round. You settle up at the end of the round, so if OJ and KD both have 4 letters each would get a shot to put the other out. If they finish the round tied you have another round (kind of win by 1 format).

If Geico's the sponsor shouldn't the prize be a car or truck? Something that can be insured?

The prize was the only entertaining part of the show, IMO.

They need to get better contestants in the future. Not boring ass Joe and KD shooting jumpshots. This would be my ideal setup:

Kevin Love
Rasheed
Gilbert Arenas

Spend an hour possibly looking bad on TV for the chance to win My Lil Pony. You are going to get contestants lining up for that honor.

Forgive me for underestimating the allure of My Lil Pony.

I know, I know, it's a new team! But with few superlatives to talk about during the season itself, isn't it just a bit odd there are NO comments about Mr. Durant's weekend on the Oklahoma City Thunder RealGM forum? Winning the M.L.P. trophy less than 24 hours after lighting up the Rookies-and-Sophs, and the hottest topics are other team fans wondering about the availability of Earl Watson and the prospects of dumping Vince Carter.

JoBlo sucked in HORSE and the all-star game. No way should he be back next year.
