I like this trade for miami provided O'Neal is healthy and as we all know that's a big if. The kid is always hurt. Also while Beasley is a nice player I agree with Simmons that Mayo would have been a better pick for Miami. Regardless, I think this balances out Miami's roster. Now if they can go figure out a way to get rid of Mark Blount they'd be golden. Jamario Moon is quite a nice addition as well

Not sure why Miami didn't just let Marion expire for cap space. Better to sign Boozer next year than use the money on JO.

Marion traded for O'Neal once again! This kind of makes the Shaq trade look less bad on Phoenix's end. Actually it's more like one of those Shawn Kemp for Vin Baker "all parties damaged in transit" deals.

Well, you could take your capspace and sign a guy like Boozer this offseason. Or, you could take on an extra year of salary and have JO play, have his expiring available next year to use for a trade, or let him expire and use that capspace towards a guy like hmmm, say Chris Bosh?

The thing that puzzles me the most is Toronto throwing in a 1st rounder?

On what planet are the people from that think O'Neal will help Miami? Or that he is any good anymore? IMO, it is like rearranging the seats on the Titanic for both teams.

I like how they received moon in the deal. Not sure why you would trade for O'Neal though.

Because he is 6'11" can score rebound and defend. Last I checked the Miami Heat had one of the 5 best players in the game and not one guy over 6'7" in their front court that could play worth a damn. I wouldn't want to pay him 20 mil bucks but he is still damn good big man. Especially when you have none.

Well, if they would have traded for him in the off-season I would have probably been praising this move. But what has he done so far this season. Nothing really, and overpaid injured big man.

A heat fan here.

And this isnt a bad move

Not only we get jo alone, but we get these with him

- jamario moon [ a cheaper shawn marion, marion always misses point blank shots and lay-ups]
- a future 1st
- a 4m trade exception

So best of luck to ya guys and yes, we also got rid of MARCUS BANKS and his ugly contract, we're players for sure in 2010, we get a 20m expiring, and we got rid of Banks plus got 2 incentives in Moon and the exception.

Looking at the trade... I like it somewhat more for Toronto. But, they don't need Banks (hasn't he underachieved with every team he has been with) with already having Calderon and Ukic. On the bright side, they rid themselves of the mistake of trading for J. O'Neal and could've cap relief if they decide not to extend Marion. Next they might look to trade off Parker and/or Kapono. For Miami, Moon is a nice player and, if that draft pick is a first round pick, then they got back something in spite of J. O'Neal. However, and this is a huge "if," what happens if Bosh leaves? Will Toronto decide to rebuild instead minus Marion and Bosh?

Marion, Banks and cash > J. O'Neal, Moon and a conditional draft pick.

If it's a first round pick, then my opinion changes a tad.

UFA, Banks (2 yrs) and cash < J. O'Neal (1 yr), RFA and a first round pick.

Note: The highest annually paid players next season will be McGrady, Braynt, J. O'Neal, Duncan and S. O'Neal. Other than Kobe, that's a lot of wasted salary on players that are seemingly always injured (Tracy and Jermaine) or they're past their prime (Shaq).

“I am obviously very familiar with Shawn on both a personal and professional level and feel he will ideally complement our roster and benefit our team in a significant way,” said Bryan Colangelo, Raptors President and General Manager. “As far as his pending free-agent status, this is not a move intended to clear space or predetermine a next move. It will however provide flexibility to both Shawn and the Raptors.

"Marcus will add scoring and defensive punch to our lineup and should benefit from the change of address.

"This is a win-win for both Toronto and Miami and we wish JO and Jamario the best," added Colangelo.
