Bill Simmon on Hickson

Post#1 » by SportsInfoBar » Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:04 pm

J.J. Hickson: My favorite under-the-radar rookie and a legitimate 2009 Playoff X Factor. If he played for the Lakers, L.A. fans would be comparing him to a young Karl Malone right now.

We get murdered on the trade board for over valuing Hickson....good to see others see what we see.

Too bad Simmons is a freaking idiot, sort of dampens the enthusiasm.

Hickson still hasn't even had his breakout game yet. Just small flashes this year ala Tyrus' rookie year.

I think we're all overrating him just a little bit.

I agree his upside is tremendous though.

Simmonds is actually smarter than most people, he just leaves himself the most exposed to criticsm because he is the most open. Hes right just as often as the analysts on epsn.

the same guy who said after the 07 post season that the east belonged to us for the next decade and there was nothing anybody could do about it only to follow up the 07-08 preseason and pick us to miss the playoffs altogether. We didn't play a game or make a trade in between the two articles.

He's like Barkley - if you read/watch for the entertainment value, there is prime time humor to be found.

Bill Simmons knows his stuff. He's been pretty spot on with a variety of predictions. He's definitely been wrong about things, but compare him to the average sportswriter and he's well ahead of the pack.

He also hit the nail on the head with this quote: "Mo Williams finished second in the league by making 51 percent of his 2-point jump shots. Throw in his 39 percent clip on 3s and that's a trade that makes sense to me. LeBron creates open jump shots for teammates. Mo Williams makes open jump shots at an alarmingly good rate. Sometimes it's that easy."

Additionally, Hickson was underrated, but is now getting to about the right rating. Think about it. He's only 20 and already has good touch around the rim, and a couple of post moves. Big men with good work ethics/no drug problems who can score in the post ALWAYS develop. Plus he's playing on a team with good leadership that emphasizes defense. If he's traded, then he might not pan out, but as long as he's practicing with Lebron and getting coached by a defensive specialist, he's at worst, a 15ppg/8rpg guy.

If LeBron James were an LA Laker, their fans would think it an insult to the King to even compare him to MJ.

lol... Typical Simmons taking potshots at the Lakers whenever possible. I was intrigued by Hickson on draft day and wouldn't have minded if the Nets took him instead of Ryan Anderson but Hickson still hasn't quite broken into the realm of relevancy yet IMHO.

Netforce: the sig has to be a joke or who would ever take him serious

Yea cause Larry had championships and as great as everyone thinks Lebron is Larry averaged as much more pts per game, rebounds, assist, ft pct, fg pct, and lets not even get into the championships or collegiate days either for that fact. The guy earned everything he every accolade he got.

If you want to call out Netsforce, do it somewhere else. This topic is about Hickson and not Larry Bird.
