Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
According to the wiretap
"The San Antonio Spurs are also pursuing Carter and have discussed a proposal that would include Roger Mason, Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto."
Interesting, but I don't really buy it. Mason is playing solid. I don't think the Spurs would trade Bowen. He's done so much for this team, that it wouldn't be a classy move to trade him now. I hope he retires a Spur.

Re: Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
The article also said that the nets would waive bowen and oberto after the trade. If I were the spurs this is a no brainer especially if bowen and oberto decide to come back to san antonio after being wiaved. I do like how roger mason fits in for the spurs, but carter is much better and can take a lot more pressure off the big three. Mason has hit game winners though which makes him just as clutch as carter, but i believe that vince can do the spurs some good. finley/bowen/oberto off the bench is deep.

Re: Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
I don't like trying to gun our way to a title. Who was the last team that won a title like that anyway?
As it is I think we are relying too much on scoring to mask our defense, it's worked. But let's not just forget what other teams have learned the hard way: Suns, Mavs, Nuggets, etc... scoring comes much easier in the regular season. Defense wins in the playoffs.
You need scoring, yes. But you also need to be able to match defensive intensity in the playoffs. Trying to add VC and not addressing our defensive and rebounding needs means we are shaping into a scoring machine of a team. It has been proven to not work when it counts.

Carter is an underrated defender and a lot better then Mason.
Carter is also a very good rebounder for a guard.
You guys get Carter and get to resign Bowen and Oberton, you instantly become the best team in the league.
Yes, I agree your not the defensive team you used to be, you are still elite though.
I think you guys have a legit shot at the title this year without a trade, bring in VC for Mason and Hill and I don't see anyone in the league beating you in a 7 game series.

I don't think it is real given that we have to give up like 4 players for it to work and I am pretty sure they would want draft picks. I can see a team like Chicago being interested in him. Gooden and filler.

I would not like this trade. Yes we would get a very good scorer but would Carter do the little things. He has always been the man and could he adjust to being 4th option in only 35 games. Also we need a big man who can rebound and defend more then another guard.

I can't believe the Spurs are willing to give up that much for Vince. God I hope this isn't true.

Tony Parker
Manu Ginobili
Vince Carter
Tim Duncan
That team right there is absolutely deadly. If you can pull off a deal for Carter, you have to do it.

i expect more from spurs fans IMO to beat the lakers you guys need a big so rasheed would make much more sense
vince at this point will only make you guys lose all your role players and get weaker defensively
rasheed gives you guys a post presence other than timmy and a guy who can defend gasol so timmy can move to bynum when he returns

Read this:

My opinion... for me the best way this plays out is if he goes to Houston for Ron ARtest's expiring contract. Why? I think Ron wants out of Houston from the rumors that say TMac and him don't get along for understanable reasons as far as I'm concerned, I side with Ron.
So, he's expiring, the Nets cut him immediately to do him a favor, he wants to sign with a contender and rub it in to the Rockets a little and get playing time? Come on Ron, open arms await!

That team right there is the Spurs deciding (incorrectly) that they need to be more like the Golden State Warriors.

Same here. I've seen the Ron Artest experiment fail elsewhere enough times to know that it wouldn't work here.

Re: Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
I don't agree with this move. The way to get Vinsanity means to eat away at the depth of the team despite two of the players mention in the trade coming back after 30 days. Despite who and what VC brings to the table. Do the Spurs really want to be logged down with his contract until he's 35 in 2012?

ok first of all let me say I love the spurs. But some of the fans man you guys gotta learn ur basketball.
How dare you say Roger Mason is better than Vince Carter?? This statement should not even be said. Roger Mason, will NEVER EVER be able to do what vince carter is doing RIGHT NOW 21 5 5.
If the Spurs get Carter through this 4 player deal where they probably get Bowen and Oberto back, consider it a lob sided trade.

Re: Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
It is shameful for someone to say Mason is better then Carter.
You are comparing a current top 25 player to a decent role player.
Some of you guys are out of your minds.
Let me clear some things up for you:
Carter is only guarenteed through 2010-11, after that he is only guarenteed around 4 mill.
Carter has always and will continue to "do all the little things".
If NJ trades for Artest, we aren't going to cut him. We would probably look to resign him to a full MLE type deal.
What does the lenght of Carter's contract matter to you guys anyway? You haven't been and will continue to not be players in FA. You won't have the cap space anyway.
Carter, contrary to popular belief is a good defensive player. He gives good effort, he has the lateral quicks, he is a good shot blocker. takes charges, gets his hand on loose balls and lazy dribbles and passes, is very vocal on switches, etc., has a decent stance and has no problem guarding the opposing players best wing scorer, plus he's a good rebounder. He just cheats too much and tends to wind up leaving guys open on the perimeter at times. This is more so because guys on the Nets always need help with a double team.
VC is a clutch player and plays with a lot of passion.
Check out his playoff stats BTW. Basically all his #'s go way up, except his shooting %'s, but that mainly has to do with him being the 1st, 2nd and 3rd option on almost any playoff squad he has evry been on.
I really hope this trade doesn't happen.
On top of the fact it is bad value for VC, it seems obvious you guys aren't going to appreciate him.
I understand you needing a post presence, rebounding and a big man that can play defense, but if you got VC, you are literally marching out an Allstar lineup every night, hell a multi-HOF lineup.
It's not just names on paper, you guys would be almost unbeatable.
You think the Big 3 in Boston are good?
Jesus, imagine the Big 4, with a MUCH BETTER coach and the fact either Manu or Vince can be your sixth man!
I'm sorry, I'm not even trying to hype this rumor up, but you can look at my posts and ask anyone, for the most part I am not a homer and I am pretty much unbiased, VC on San An for the proposed deal, along with the conditions that go with it would be bannanas.

Re: Spurs in Carter sweepstakes ?
I think to where some ppl would say that Mase is better than VC in is from the shooting standpoint. We know that Mase is not out there to score 20 a night. That is where VC is better than Mase in the scorer's mentality. We all know that better than most. We should also know that when you have more scorers on the team than shooters and whatnot, somebody's pts avg will take a hit. Like PHX with Amare right now or the 2002 Mavs team with Raef LaFrentz when he used to scored 13pts a game before the trade from Denver. Although I respect what VC offers a team, I wonder at what cost is it really worth pullin the trigger on the deal.
