Five Players the L's Need to Keep No Matter What
Kobe, Pau, Drew, Ariza, Farmar.
All five are smart and are fierce competitors. These five either have or will have some of the highest basketball IQ's in the league. You might quibble and not put Drew in that category. But when you add in the KAJ factor, Andrew will eventually have one of the highest basketball IQ's in the league.
Smart players keep getting better throughout their career. Smart players often have longer careers.(They learn how to avoid some injuries and also how to take care of their bodies.)
At least 4 out of 5 of these players have a fire burning in their bellies and they truly hate to lose. The jury is still out on Andrew whether he has this trait.
IMHO these are the five laker players that Jerry and Mitch have to find a way to keep. If they can keep these 5 player for the next 7 or 8 years, Kobe will retire with as many or more championships than MJ.

IMO, Jordan doesn't belong within a stone's throw of your list.

Re: Five Players the L's Need to Keep No Matter What
subtract Farmar and add LO, Walton and Sasha to the list.
LO is looking more and more confortable with the triangle offense, he is the ultimate team player and he is the utility man doing all the intangibles. regardless of his boneheaded plays his pluses outweigh his minuses by a lot.
Walton sucks right? yeah when he plays injured. when he is healthy he is the second best distributor behind Kobe. I don't know if anybody has noticed that ever since he took the starting spot from Vladi he has been solid like he always is when he is healthy. all the complaints about Walton are of times when he is playing hurt. think about that.
Sasha, he is the only shooter we have left, he knows the triangle and he is expanding his game. have you guys noticed that lately he is more of a pass first guard? yeah I know! he has been really picking his spots lately and is trying to penetrate. when was the last time you saw a player adding to his arsenal on the year after he signs his big contract?
Fisher is also a keeper, but as a back up, not so much for his skillset, but for what he brings to the locker room.
Farmar will never be a starter. he has the attitde and the work ehtic, but he is not skilled enough. he is the easier one to replace.

You're really saying Drew doesn't belong on that list yet you praise Farmar? That's like saying you're on track for the RGM HOF.

Agreed...............the minute I didn't see Drew I knew this list was flawed, but that's what you get from a kid posting.crazyeights wrote:You're really saying Drew doesn't belong on that list yet you praise Farmar? That's like saying you're on track for the RGM HOF.

This. If it's 6 people, I would say D-Fish too.

me and you makes two...i hate all the fickle short-sightedness regarding luke...oh well..
one quick observation/opinion regarding luke, being that we use and are primarily a triangle team...for all intents and purposes luke is out point guard, and as such functions as a galvanizing/stabilizing force for the squad...
anyway...

Kobe
Bynum

Ariza
Those are really the only 4. Yeah, it's great to have Lamar, but financially, I don't think we'll be able to do it. 3, 4 years ago.. we'd be able to keep him.
It's certainly going to be hard to replace Fisher though, when he retires. He's a key member to this team.. as a backup or a starter.

Re: Five Players the L's Need to Keep No Matter What
This year kind of sucked. Who's with me that it needs stars in next years event?
Kobe, Ray Allen, Dirk Nowitzki in the three point shoot out. LeBron, Dwight Howard, Nate Robinson, Josh Smith, Trevor Ariza in the dunk contest.
Wade, Rose, Joe Johnson in the skills competition.
