If We Land a Big Name Like Amare Would It Cheapen a Title?
As much as I would love to see Amare playing next to Lebron, I also feel we'd be getting championships delivered to us on a silver platter. We already acquired an excellent PG in Mo for nothing, and to get Amare in similar circumstances would lessen the enjoyment of Cleveland bringing home the title. You look at the great dynasties of the past, San Antonio, Chicago, Boston, Lakers, they built their teams the hard way from the ground up. Cleveland would be a dynasty sure, but one in whose main components other than Lebron: Mo, Delonte, Amare; all came in lopsided trades by desperate owners.
What is sweeter, buying a new home with money that you worked hard and long for, or someone just giving you that home for nothing. Sure there is the initial euphoria of getting something for nothing, but you'd never cherish it like you would something that you worked hard for.

Someone like Shaq would some but his age neutralizes it. Amare hasn't proven anything and I just want a championship that doesn't have the name Jim Brown for once.

I don't see how getting Amare is handing the Cavs the title at all. Boston, LA, and San Antonio are very experienced and talented teams. Orlando will still be tough too. San Antonio got lucky the year Robinson got hurt and won the lotto for Duncan. Boston traded for the talent in their most recent championship. LA is reaping the benefits of a lopsided Gasol trade with Memphis. There isn't really anything to feel bad about in it. As a long suffering Cleveland sports fan, there isn't anything that would diminish a title if the Cavs were to get one. I wouldn't feel sorry about it the day it was won or twenty years from now.

I think the best is to wait next 100 years to win a title...

You guys are too sensitive. This is just my perspective as a casual fan. I think we are good enough now to win a title with our rag tag bunch. Amare would be a huge upgrade but you can't deny that if we won a title this year with the current team it'd be more gratifying than winning with a rent a superstar whoever itd be. I don't think of Amare or Bosh as Cleveland Cavaliers and disgruntled players like them that jump around from team to team are a big problem for sports today. I mean really, what is Shaq's legacy?
Players should have loyalty to the city and fan base that drafted them, rooted for them and paid their salary for years. Its cheap to acquire guys like Amare with no loyalty just because they want to win chips and play with the best player on the planet. I wouldn't veto the Amare trade but trades like this have a silver lining.

Did Michael Jordan having another top 25 NBA player of all time as his sidekick cheapen the title for him?

Re: If We Land a Big Name Like Amare Would It Cheapen a Title?
The Bulls drafted and developed Pippen. Pippen was a raw player his first few years in the league, he wasn't some superstar that wanted to change teams on a whim. If Karl Malone for example decided he wanted to play with Jordan and the duo was those two than I'd say yes, they'd be cheapened titles. There are very few big men in the league that are an offensive force these days and acquiring Amare for peanuts on a team that is already one of the best in the league just feels cheap.
I just don't want to see a team that is sweeping teams in the finals left and right and dominating the league with rent-a-superstars. Lebron is so good that surrounding him with talent like Amare could easily lead to that and it wouldn't be good for basketball IMO.

Different though..The Bulls got Scottie from Seattle on draft day I believe, so they had him from the beginning...Poohdini wrote:Did Michael Jordan having another top 25 NBA player of all time as his sidekick cheapen the title for him?
It's kinda like the Celtics.. C'mon, they didn't go out and buy a championship technically, but they're certainly not a team that worked their way for a title and built a contender from scratch...
Paul Pierce is a champion, yes, but only because he was handed two all time greats next to him.... Same with a KG...I don't view the Celtics championship in the same light as I do the Lakers of the early 2000's or the Spurs... The Celtics and to a lesser extent the Heat's recent titles were titles that were purchased and not really earned by the organization..
Saving grace for me is LeBron was able to lead his team to the finals with absolutely nobody on his squad...
But I get what you're saying, Baseline.. I agree... Different era though, and this seems like the way to go..

Titles don't count unless you do it by yourself... I mean right?

Wow... We haven't won a championship in 45 years. I don't think we can be too picky about how we should win a championship.

What about the Lakers? They lured Shaq from Orlando to play with Kobe, who declared he will play in LA only to prevent all teams from drafting him and allow the Bucks trade him for Divac thus clearing cap space for Shaq...

Yeah, but it took them 4 or 5 seasons to get it together..I see what you're saying, but it wasn't a scenario like 'here's two all stars, so here's your immediate championship' kinda deal.. The Lakers took their lumps in the 97,98,99 playoffs before breaking through... In fact, they almost lost the '00 WCF game 7 to the Blazers as well if I recall... I think they were down 15 or 16 points in the 4th quarter..Aboozer wrote:What about the Lakers? Laker's wont' apologize for getting Shaq and Gasol for nothing...why would the CAVs?
With the economy being as bad as it is...many owners fortunes have gone south by a lot due to the Real Estate and Banking Collapses. The CAVs shouldn't feel that getting Amare and paying more luxury tax in these times cheapen a Title since they are taking on Risk in Salary too and the possibility of it not working out.

It's precisely the way to build a championship team... Here in Detroit, we built a very good team but needed to make the trade for Sheed to put us over the top. Trust me, it did not cheapen anything..

If you think Amare would cheapen a title in cleveland, you can put that for all the best players ever.
Jordan - Pippen
Magic - Kareem
Kareem - Magic / Oscar
Wilt - West / Goodrich
Shaq - Kobe / Wade
Bird - McHale / Parish
Russell - Tons of other HOF
Basically every other all time great has had MORE help than what Amare would be for us.

I don't care. A championship is a championship, and I want one for Cleveland. I don't care how it's done or how we do it, but I want one. Boston bought theirs, as did the Laker's 3-peat and the Heat. I could name many others, but who cares?

Yep, fans are not complaining about how they won a title but just the fact that they did win one..

Not one of the teams that you mentioned actually "built" their dynasties through the draft... NONE of them!
Chicago, had ex Cavalier players all over their roster, and traded for Rodman...got Pippen in a steal; got Harper in a steal, got Jackson in a steal....
Boston bought their championship
Lakers bought ALL of their championships since moving from Minneapolis.
