1) When he scores he rebounds.
2)His bread and butter play is the pick-n-roll which the Suns have stopped running. T-Mac is great at running the pick-n-roll w/a big man.
3)Neither Landry nor Scola have been esp great defenders this yr.,so why worry about Amare's D.
4)Interesting article by a Suns blogger who focused on Amare's D for the last few games. He said Amare's problem was he wasn't leaving his man at all, that he was so worried about getting yelled at for leaving his man he was making no attempt at all to offer Defensive help.
5)He's a big who shoots from outside, runs the floor, gets to the FT line, finishes inside and occassionaly blocks some shots.
On the flip side he's insecure, immature and not a professional in the way of Yao,Battier, etc.
Good post. I don't see what all this hate is about. I don't think he'll be a bad fit in Houston, however I do acknowledge that he isn't a significant upgrade either. I'm pretty content with what Scola is doing on the court.
Yao fans, you seem to dislike Amare with a passion. I know they came out in the same draft and a rivalry was created by their fans, but you're foolish if you're worried about Amare trying to steal Yao's spotlight in Houston. Everyone knows that Amare isn't better than Yao.
Amare's D is not just bad, it is horrible of all-time proportions. This guy simply does not try on defense. He doesn't block shots (1.1 a game, when he can jump out of the gym), doesn't really rebound (8.2 a game), is bad on perimeter defense, and about his post defense, KWAME BROWN effortlessly scored on him in the post and left him in the dust on spin moves. KWAME BROWN. It was so bad that at one point that STEVE NASH (who is awful at defense himself) called him out for not playing D. STEVE NASH. Landry and Scola might be mediocre defenders, but Amare is simply awful. He could be one of the worst big men defenders of all time, up there with guys like Eddy Curry. I don't understand why fans can't recognize the difference when something is merely mediocre and when something is totally awful. Does it make no difference to you if you get 75/100 on a test versus when you get a 50/100?
If his offense has stagnated when playing with Shaquille O'Neal, then simply put it will not get better playing with Yao, especially with no Steve Nash to feed him the ball. He is also very selfish and has a bad attitude; he has dropped statements that indicate that he cares about his own stats first and the reports out of Phoenix are that he had a hand in kicking D'Antoni but now wants him back because he realizes that D'Antoni was best for his numbers. I'd rather have Ron bashing his teammates than this selfish garbage from Stoudemire, at least Ron is trying to help the team by calling out McGrady for defense.
If Amare is traded to a good team, his lack of defense and selfishness will cause him and his new team to fail. If he is traded to a bad team, he will be revealed to be another Shareef or Juwan, guys who can put up 20/9 numbers but inefficiently and have no real impact on the game. Simply put he is totally fool's gold. I pity the team that takes him on and it had better not be the Rockets.
Edit: Now Porter is about to be fired as an appeasement gesture to Stoudemire. I can add coach-killer to Amare's rap sheet.
