No more drive-bys: Curry spent the break poring over film of the Pistons' recent in-game collapses, saying: "The overriding theme in the games where we gave away leads was, it all comes down to handling dribble penetration and rebounding."

Curry spent a portion of practice tightening some of the defensive schemes, eight days after Milwaukee's Ramon Sessions shredded the Pistons for 44 points, most of it off the dribble. "We are going to try and do a couple of things to be a little more proactive in our coverages," Curry said.

Prince said the problem was allowing dribble penetration off pick-and-rolls. "We have to make different adjustments, but one practice isn't going to cover the whole situation," he said.

Other teams said to be interested in Stoudemire are Detroit, Cleveland, Sacramento, Houston and (less likely) Portland. Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry was quoted on NBA.com as saying he doubted he would make any trades by the league deadline Thursday.

Pistons Make a Trade: Here are the details and thoughts from Chris McCosky at the Detroit News . . . The Pistons traded guard Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. The two teams will swap future second-round draft picks. The move takes the Pistons from $300,000 over the luxury tax threshold to $500,000 under. The deal will also put the team close to another $1 million under the salary cap this summer. Without knowing exactly where the salary cap will be set, the Pistons are now expected to have some $23 million to spend on free agents, if they choose to, this summer. Acker, 26, was the 60th overall pick of the Pistons in 2005. He played in seven games this season, averaging 1.3 points. The Pistons have three second-round picks in this year's draft. One of those will most likely be sent to the Clippers. EDIT . .. here are teh details straight from the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has acquired a conditional second round draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guard Alex Acker and its 2011 second round draft pick.

Dave Bing had the most cash available as candidates for Detroit mayor entered the last two weeks of the campaign.

New campaign filings show the former Detroit Pistons star had $169,000 available on Feb. 8. Freman Hendrix had $69,000, and Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans had $55,000 in his account. The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News say Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. had about $10,000.

Detroit voters will choose a candidate in a primary election on Feb. 24. The two top finishers will go on the May 5 ballot, with the winner serving as mayor for the remainder of 2009.There will be another election in November.

Breaking trade news! Are you ready?!? Alex Acker to the Clippers. Not even for a pick — the two teams will simply swap second-rounders sometime in the future. If you’ve been paying attention, you knew this would happen months ago.

The Phoenix Suns fired coach Terry Porter on Monday, just four months into his first season with the club and the sputtering team barely in playoff contention. Assistant Alvin Gentry was appointed interim coach.

Phoenix (28-23) lost five of eight going into the All-Star break and trails Utah by one game for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

The Detroit Pistons traded Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, creating salary-cap space for moves the next two offseasons. Detroit dealt the seldom-used guard and its second-round pick in 2011 for a conditional second-round selection in 2013 from the Clippers. Los Angeles also waived center Cheikh Samb.

The Pistons will have about $23 million in salary-cap space, giving them a lot of money to retool their team during the next two years after slipping from an Eastern Conference power to a middle-of-the pack team. The 6-foot-5 Acker played in just seven games for the Pistons this season, averaging 1.3 points. Detroit drafted him 60th overall in 2005 and he played in five games as a rookie, then went overseas before returning as a free agent.

Samb was acquired by the Clippers in a Jan. 5 trade with Denver. He played in 10 games, averaging 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.4 minutes.

Pistons a 35-1 shot to win the NBA title: Tonight, the unofficial second half of the NBA season tips off, and the people of BetUS.com have stepped out on a limb, posting their odds for how the season will end.

While Kobe Bryant is an even-money bet to win the league's MVP, LeBron James is 1-3. The Web site has Allen Iverson, sans cornrows, at 100-1. Chauncey Billups is 40-1.The Pistons still have a chance to win the NBA title, according to the Web site. They are at 35-1. The Lakers are 2-1, the defending champion Celtics 5-2 and the Cavaliers 4-1.

Also listed were odds on the next coach to be fired this season (ex-Pistons assistant Terry Porter being the eighth). Indiana's Jim O'Brien and Portland's Nate McMillan are at 3-2 to be canned. Michael Curry was not listed.

Sean Williams was arrested Sunday on the Boston College campus for trespassing, a charge stemming from a disturbing-the-peace warrant and restraining order that date back to May. The Nets and Williams refused comment Monday, but one team official -- who could not speak on the record because it is a police matter -- said Williams was invited to the BC-Duke game by the Eagles coaches, who assured him there would be no legality issues. After a string of no comments, Williams -- who played for BC from 2004-07 -- nodded vigorously when asked if he was invited, but said nothing. BC coach Al Skinner could not be reached for comment. Williams will be arraigned later this month.

Stromile Swift returned to the team, two weeks after his mom died. The Nets are unsure whether he's able to resume work, however, and the eight-year pro admits his own concerns. "Some days are okay, some days it's real hard," Swift said.

Yi Jianlian, out since Jan. 9 with a broken right pinkie, practiced for the first time and could return tonight. Yi would come off the bench, backing up rookie Ryan Anderson.

On top of that, Jason Richardson won't be playing against the Clippers, serving a one-game suspension after his arrest for allegedly driving 55 mph above the limit, and other alleged infractions. The Clippers? They will be without leading rebounder Marcus Camby, who has an ear infection.

The Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal with the Boston Celtics on Monday night, a league source told ESPN.com. The Celtics will send Sam Cassell and cash to the Kings for a future second-round pick.

Barring any changes overnight, the deal is expected to be finalized Tuesday afternoon with the league office. The deal helps the Celtics by removing Cassell's salary from the team's luxury-tax computations. The Kings give up virtually nothing to do it as the pick is heavily protected. Furthermore, another league source says the deal could pave the way for the Celtics to add another player to their roster prior to the playoffs. The Celtics had a maximum of 15 players on their current roster.

Cassell hasn't played a game for the Celtics this season, but he's been an important veteran voice in the locker room. While it's unclear what the Kings will do with Cassell, most likely they'll waive him.
