Who would be on Boston's Mount Rushmore?

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:48 pm

Ok the rules are that you can only put 4 players/coaches on the mountain. Me and my brother had a disagreement because I said I'd put 2 celtics on it and didn't put Ted Williams. He wanted to go with Red and Williams instead of Bird and Russell.

Cfan79's picks

Bird, Russell, Brady, Orr

My five would be:

Red, Russell, Orr, Brady & Ted Williams

I would make room for five because four would be tough.

Unlike other cities we actually have many deserving choices, so this contest doesn't really work here imo.

Williams

Russell
Bird

Russell, Bird, Orr and Teddy Ballgame.

Brady still needs another few seasons before he passes any of these guys. He just doesn't have enough "black ink" to push past them. Russell, Bird and Orr are all multiple MVP and multiple Playoff MVP award winners (although the award didn't exist for Russell until his last championship, I assume he would have won at least 5 or 6). Brady only has one regular season MVP award and two Super Bowl MVPs. His rate stats are great, but at the moment he still has fewer career passing yards than Steve Grogan. I think Brady will be there, but he'd have to be my 5th place selection right now.

You can't not put larry legend on there, he is the most famous Celtics player (I didn't say best, but far more well known to the casual fans then bill russell) Bird, Williams, Orr, Brady.

Basketball Russel, Bird, Pierce, Cousy

Lol at anyone leaving BASEBALL off of a massachusetts mount rushmore.

Teddy Ballgame.
Tom Brady
Bobby Orr

those are the top 3 from each of our top sports, minus basketball. Now we get to the hard part. Russell or Bird. Hmmm, really tough. I am going to go with Russell.

How can some of you not have Bill Russell?

I know that the Red Sox are probably the most popular team in New England, but Its Blasphemy if you don't have Bill on it. The guy won 11 titles. No offense to Teddy, but he didn't bring 1 to Beantown.

Red, Russell, Pedro, and Orr

Red has to be in there because the NBA or the Celtics wouldn't exist without him.

Russell and Orr, no need to explain.

I put Pedro instead of Ted Williams because he was the best pitcher of the last 50 years and won a title.

I had to leave out Brady because out of Russell, Pedro, Orr and Brady, Brady ranks the lowest in the Greatest of all time list in his respective sport. IMO, as great as Brady has been, the defense was as responsible for the Super Bowl titles as was Brady, if not more.
