I don't do that deal unless I know we will re-sign Lee. The main reason being, if it is purely a rental then I prefer Shaq under the basket IN the new system. Remember how Amar'e did next to Shaq under D'Antoni? Gentry will take some of Shaq's looks away from him in favor of the more-fastbreak-talented Amar'e. The P n' R between Nash and Amar'e will be a big factor in this. Conclusion: I actually don't want Shaq to leave unless we are talking about a better long-term solution that can bring a lot to the table defensively.
And about the topic, have you ever seen a trade happen where the talk beforehand didn't keep flip-flopping around? I can name you countless trades where in the previous week the GM said the player will "not be traded".
