[ESPN] T-Mac will miss the remainder of season (link: pg. 2)

Stephen A. just reported on ESPN. He's out for the year and will undergo microfracture surgery.
Stephen A. also stated that McGrady wants to make a name in the 2010 free agency.

It's tough watching my favorite player go down like this but it's time to move on. Get well, T-Mac.

This should elucidate the direction to where Morey and the rest of the team should be headed.

So, where does this put the T-Mac? Is he gonna be back before next season? Playoffs? or what?

S.A. Smith didn't mention anything in regard to his return. To my knowledge a microfracture rehabilitation requires anywhere between 4 to 6 months. He could miss the playoffs.

4 to 6 months for T-Mac is more like 8-12 months.

I wonder if maybe he rushed back to soon and this is what happened? Or did he require this surgery from the very beginning of the season?

Either way its proven Rocket medical staff = horrible.

It doesn't matter how good you are if you can't stay healthy. The problem with McGrady has always his poor work ethic and his inability to maintain good health. Upon his knee surgery, he never took initiatives to undergo a proper rehabilitation. Had he believed in preventive medicine and took great care of his body, this could have never happened. Whether his career is over or not could depend on how well he's learned from his lessons. He's 29 and if he makes the same mistake, he has no shot coming back. Hell, even with wise decision-making, it's very tough to come back from a microfracture surgery.

I'm going to respect his decision of undergoing surgery and I wish him the best.

pretty much expected
as least this year we got Artest and an unexpected Wafer
plus others are playing better without T-Mac

That is not really encouraging for teams planning to sign him. After he gets his contract then what?

Well if he played good during his contract year, then teams won't really be that worried, again he just needs to come back fully healthy, but needs to take care of his business this time around.

Also, what kind of injury did Wade have, does anyone know?

finally we know! now we can move the hell on.. now rick can make his rotations knowing what we have... thank goodness we traded for artest this would have been devastating otherwise..im still confident..

McGrady had arthroscopic surgery on the knee last May and has been slow to recover. The seven-time All-Star missed much of January trying to get the knee back in shape and had an MRI last week to try to discover why it was still bothering him.

"The last couple of games, I've regressed," McGrady said during halftime of last Wednesday's game. "I've felt pain."

Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire is an example of the tough road that comes with microfracture surgery. His procedure ultimately cost him all but three games of the 2005-06 season. He returned the next season, however, to play in 82 games and regained his All-Star form.

McGrady was examined Tuesday in New York and has another examination scheduled for Wednesday. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander said there would be news about McGrady’s condition sometime this week.

"I always thought he was injured and has problems," Alexander said. "There will be more news coming out in the next couple days. He’s a great player when he’s healthy and a great competitor."

This might be a blessing in disguise...I'm glad tht we not getting Carter because he would not help our chemistry at all. Honestly this season, T-mac was being a burden and has been bringing everyone down when he was down (ie: Milwaukee game). I think we don't need to make any moves and we should be fine just the way we are with Wafer's time to shine now and he has proven that he could do so when given the opportunity. We DO have enough talent to make it past the first round, just as long as Battier really did find his shot over allstar break and Yao Ming touches the ball 90% of the time that he is on the floor... we'll be alight..

With this report, I think it is imminent that no trade will proceed. Our chemistry looked great tonight. We just need to maintain the same level of intensity and win some games on the road.

I was almost for sure he'd come back within the next two weeks, I thought with the oppurtunity so high, and the best chance at for him to succeed and advance, something he's never done in his long and semi-accomplished career, that there's no chance he'd shut it down for the rest of the season and potentially sabotage the Rockets chances of being title contenders, especially after many doctors have told him he could play on that knee, and the MRI has consistently shown nothing was wrong structurally with his knee. But tonight, announcing he's going to shut it down for the season, and essentially wiping away his career, and the Rockets actual chance to win the championship, as slim as it was before is gone.

I'd like some more clarification on if the surgery was absolutely needed before I go onto bash him for quitting on the season, but this has to be disappointing. Such high expectations, to another season with an excuse when we underachieve once again.

It's time to move on though, whether we move for Carter or not, a trade I hope we personally do especially after hearing tonight's news, then it'll be time for Artest/Carter and Yao to lead the team. We're deeper, and have much better offensive punch than we've had in previous seasons. It's been blatantly obvious we've been better without McGrady in the lineup, and hopefully knowing he's done for good, that we can continued the effort, and stepped up play from everyone on the roster. This will be Yao's time to shine, his time to finally jump into the Top 10 of MVP Voting, and show the league he's one of the top players in the league. Losing McGrady on paper is a bad thing, but in a sense, it could be a relief, since I doubt even had he played, we'll have done much better than whatever is coming up for the Rockets, but there's always that "what if" factor, and the potential with McGrady on the team is undeniable.

I really don't know what to think on the whole McGrady situation, I feel he's quit on the team this season, and think his potentially last game was a missed dunk and 1-9 performance against the Bucks. People will bring up Kidd/Stockton, but they were generally durable players for the most part in their career, and McGrady having had just a minor procedure in the off-season and still not apparently recovered, how does he react towards a major surgery like micro-fracture. He doesn't have the work ethic, desire or mentality to come back strong from this. I hope I'm wrong and he comes back to that level of an All-Star/Elite Wing, but seeing what I've seen this season, I wouldn't expect anything.

There's no point in true negativity, so whatever we may do from here on and the trade deadline, here's to new beginnings.
