Expirings Valued More?

Post#1 » by [classik] » Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:33 am

Hearing the latest rumors plus the Chandler trade (salary dump) I got wondering - do you think the current economy and owner's panic has made this year's expiring contracts better trade assets for the Wolves than next year's in terms of 2011 talent?

I almost believe this year's are more valuable at this point. It does not sound like there are as many teams offering up their expirings this year compared to what might be out there next year. I am sure we will start seeing some big names resign and teams realize they are not in the running for FA signings so more teams would be looking to trade - reducing our leverage.

Opinions?

You're right. The economic decline has caused owners to lose a large percentage of their net worth. Teams are built with player raises, but its possible the salary cap and lux may shrink in 2010. Even owners who aren't running for financial cover still want to carry out their financial plans in 2010. I think expirings are worth more right now than I can ever remember.

I don't think shrink will be happy until we've got a roster full of players who are paying the Wolves for the privilege of being in the NBA.

LOL! For most basketball fans, the Finals are the greatest week of NBA.

For me, its Trade Deadline

Trade Deadline, Draft Lottery, and the Draft are my three favorite times. Oh and definitely that first week of free agency.

When I used to really get into video games I used to auto-sim the seasons of Madden, NBA2k, etc just so I could get to the draft, free agency period, and complete trades.

The actual game play never compared to the GM Management. It's because of this I'm completely convinced that I could rebuild the Wolves, Vikings, and Twins in one season. Hey, if I can do it on the playstation, real life is a piece of cake. Mmmmm, cake...

I'll be right back, I'm hungry now. :-)
