i wouldn't mind it only if the carter deal for artest went through as well but that is the only way i could see it working

Though this has been discussed in one of the other threads. This wouldnt be bad or good. Barons contract is quite big.. BUT not as big as Tracys. Which means we would possibly be getting Kaman or Camby in the trade. T-Mac will not be playing, so it is not like the Mavs or Suns.

This would be a good deal, we get a good point and a good scorer in Davis. A trio of Yao, Davis, and artest would be really good.

Think about it... He is getting paid, and his team is going no where. Why should he play hard? Maybe I am wrong. I just think that he is not playing for a contract of a contender. No reason for him to try which could be good and/or bad.

I would welcome Baron Davis with open arms. I've always loved watching Baron Davis, and while his play is streaky he's still a playmaking PG...something we've needed on this team for a long time. Baron Davis gives us a PG with size that can create, score, run the break, and attack the basket. If we could net Baron for Mcgrady's hobbled ass then I'd be all for it.

Baron is my favorite PG in the league, living in the bay area, I had the pleasure or horror of watching every game of his. He's an elite player when he's motivated and in shape, he's one of the best closers in the NBA, an elite play-maker, and dangerous, but streaky scorer. But what scares me is I realize the deficiencies he has in his game, and now that he's got that large contract in which he's locked up for what 4 more years, his motivation level isn't where it's supposed to be at. He's locked up, living the good life in LA. So even if he came to a better team in the Rockets, I'm not even sure the motivation factor is due to playing on a poor team with the Clippers.

He'd fit right in though, he's injury prone, a chucker from the perimeter, and shoots under 38% from the field, much like McGrady, and much like Artest. He's a natural born Houston Rocket. As for trading T-Mac for him, if the micro-fracture crap is true, then why not, McGrady's career is essentially done, and the risk of Baron is greater than Mac in a wheelchair. But also concerning is Baron's contract, he's not the player to take us over the top, and do we want to ruin that 2010, or even 2011 plan to have an older, and majorly locked up Baron who's bound to miss games, or have a "done" T-Mac who expires before the large 2010 FA class, and could be a valuable trading commodity in NEXT years trade deadline for his large expiring contract.

I think it's almost too unrealistic.

I dont know. Baron is overpaid for his production right now and is on a very long contract. I would be ok with it if I was really convinced that this makes us better than SA and LA. You think that Baron will play better in HOU? If you all dont think so why should we go through with it(especially if it kills our 2010 abilities). For me I guess it would depend on who else we get back with Baron.

That would be the best possible thing that could happen in my opinion with the whole Yao retirement deal this could be a roster that could make a decent push this year and the next

We can get something(Carter) for Ron before he leave(most likely). Replace the loss of Landry with Camby. And still (seriously)compete for the next few years.

why trade for a bad contract?

I see that most of you are desperate. Baron Davis is 29 years-old, has a horrible contract and will kill our free agency in the subsequent years. You have to think about the future as well. Morey should not touch this deal.

I would do it but simply because T-Mac is gone next year @ at the trade deadline at the latest. Davis' contract, while long, isn't that bad on a yearly basis (not a max deal). It also significantly improves our weakest position @ PG.

But most importantly I think it makes us better this year and next, which is still the goal. Would T-Mac's expiring contract net us something better next year? Possibly, but not much better because @ best it's going to be a second-tier player with a sizable contract that runs past 2010, which is exactly what Davis is.

About Davis' play I am sure he'll play better when he is on a contender. Once you get locked in that contract the motivation to play is more about winning and your legacy. The risk with Davis IMO is more about potential chemistry issues but with Adelman being a player's coach and our solid locker room (which has so far passed the Artest litmus-test) I think we hedge that risk quite a bit.

All in all though T-Mac for Davis doesn't work straight up, there is a too much of a salary difference. If they take Alston (whose contract also expires 2010) along with T-Mac I would be all over this.

I know we all want McGrady gone but come on now. If the Clippers pull this off it would be the best trade they have ever made. EVER. To offload a terrible contract in a half a season should earn some Executive of the Year honors for Dunleavy.

I don't think we really want to go through another 'when healthy' scenario. With McGrady out now I don't think we make any trades b/c we need our biggest trade bait which is Artest. Unless we are getting Carter back for Artest and fillers then we are probably better off staying as is right now.

I would only trade for Baron if we could get Carter. If we cant get Carter I wouldnt do the Baron trade.
