The Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings have reached tentative agreement on a trade sending Andres Nocioni, Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons to the Kings for Brad Miller and John Salmons, ESPN.com.

One source said the Bulls players were pulled off the team bus Wednesday afternoon and were told they had been traded.

The deal also involved a third team. The Bulls agreed to send Michael Ruffin to Portland, and the Trail Blazers would ship Ike Diogu to the Kings, sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard. Another source said the trade was expected to be finalized by Wednesday evening.

Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has signed forward Cartier Martin for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Martin, who signed his first 10-day with the Bobcats on Jan. 29 and a second 10-day on Feb. 8, has appeared in seven games with averages of 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 14.4 minutes. He has also connected on .400 (6-15) of his three-point attempts. His best game since joining the team came on Feb. 6 against Atlanta, when he scored 11 points on 3-7 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers in 19:29 minutes.

The Kings got what they wanted out of the Sam Cassell trade even if he never joins the team. The second-round pick is protected through the 55th spot in 2015, meaning the Kings retain it unless they are among the worst five teams the previous season.

They made money because of the cash considerations. A source with knowledge of the situation said they received nearly $500,000 in the deal that will more than offset the remaining cost of Cassell's expiring contract and net them close to $340,000. Cassell will make $1.2 million this season, with $797,581 of it paid by the NBA because it is a one-year, veteran's minimum contract.

According to the Boston Globe, a source close to Cassell said he has no interest in joining the Kings and will simply wait to be waived so he can join a playoff-contending team. While sources indicate the Kings will waive the 16-year veteran, Petrie said Cassell was "certainly welcome to come" and he had no plans to waive him.

O'Neal suffers cut in Heat debut
Jermaine O'Neal left his first game with the Miami Heat midway through the third quarter Wednesday night after getting cut near his right eye.

O'Neal was struck by the Minnesota Timberwolves' Mike Miller, who was called for a charging foul. O'Neal stayed down for a moment, then was helped into the Heat locker room, dabbing a towel at his face in an effort to control bleeding.

There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury, or if O'Neal was expected to return.

The Griz announced early Tuesday that they assigned rookie center Hamed Haddadi to the NBA Development League’s Dakota Wizards. Haddadi returned to Dakota where he averaged six points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 17.7 minutes over 11 games (seven starts) during his first D-League stint. The 7-2, 280-pound Iranian has appeared in four games for the Griz.

Ginobili did not accompany the team on its trip to New York for Tuesday's game, ordered instead to stay behind for tests and treatment on a sore right ankle.

The ankle had been bothering Ginobili for a few days heading into the All-Star break. The silver lining for the Spurs is that this is not the ankle Ginobili had surgically repaired during the offseason. “He just had some soreness,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “We just wanted to make sure, so we're getting him checked out.”

If it responds to treatment, there is a chance Ginobili could re-join the team on the rest of the rodeo trip, which moves to Detroit on Thursday and concludes at Washington on Saturday. That, however, sounded unlikely Tuesday night.

Craig Smith Plays Despite Broken Ribs
Timberwolves forward Craig Smith on Tuesday night didn't reprise his last performance at Verizon Center, but, hey, the guy couldn't get out of bed 10 days ago.

With teammate Al Jefferson out for the season and set for surgery today, Smith returned after missing four games because of a cracked rib suffered two weeks ago at Indiana. He came to the arena where he scored a career-high 36 points last season and this time, wearing a hefty vest to protect his rib cage, delivered a two-point, three-steal, two-assist, one-rebound performance in 17-plus minutes off the bench.

Smith said he likely will wear the vest for the next few games and then hopes to upgrade to a lighter version. On Tuesday, it was probably those two weeks off -- much of it spent sitting up in one position in bed -- rather than the vest that left him feeling "out of rhythm" until after halftime.

Pacers F Granger leaves game with foot strain
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger left Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats early in the second quarter with a strained right foot.

The explosive forward, who is coming off his first All-Star Game appearance, had 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting before departing. His return is questionable.

Granger is averaging 25.3 points this season, sixth-best in the NBA.

Bulls acquire Salmons, Miller in seven-player deal with Kings
As the trade deadline closes to within a 24-hour window, the Chicago Bulls got a jump on the action on Wednesday. The struggling Bulls have acquired swingman John Salmons and center Brad Miller from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team, seven-player deal. Chicago shipped forwards Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni and Cedric Simmons to Sacramento and center Michael Ruffin to the Portland Trail Blazers, who dealt Ike Diogu to the Kings. The Bulls have been rumored to be in the running for the likes of Amare Stoudemire and Chris Bosh to shore up an underachieving frontcourt, but nothing concrete has materialized on either front. In lieu of either superstar, they instead picked up Miller, the 7-foot veteran who can provide both a scoring and rebounding presence inside.

The Bulls know that from personal experience - Miller spent 1 1/2 seasons with the club from 2000-2002 before being traded to the Indiana Pacers. The two-time All-Star is averaging 11.9 points and 8.0 rebounds but has battled injuries this season, having missed the last six contests with an abdominal strain. While Miller should immediately slide into the starting lineup, the team sacrificed some depth to get him. Gooden leads the team in rebounding at 8.6 per contest, while adding 13.1 points. His contract will expire at the conclusion of the season. Nocioni, a 6-7, 225-pound shooter, has been a valuable role player for the Bulls over the last four years. The team also acquired Salmons, who has enjoyed a career season with 18.3 points and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor. The seventh-year swingman carried much of the team's scoring load while Kevin Martin missed time earlier this season with a sprained ankle. "Brad Miller is a skilled big man, who we feel will fit into many of the things that we run offensively. He is a good shooter and passer, and has a natural feel for how to play the game," Chicago general manager John Paxson said. "John Salmons will bring us tremendous versatility in the backcourt, and at the small forward position. He has good size and length, and has shown the ability to score this year."

Simmons has played sparingly since being selected 15th overall by the New Orleans Hornets out of North Carolina State in 2006. He is averaging 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds. In Diogu, the Kings acquire a former ninth overall selection who has not lived up to his potential. He will be joining his fourth NBA team in as many years, having washed out with Golden State, Indiana and now Portland. His playing time has dwindled this season as the Blazers have surged into the thick of the playoff race. Portland picked up Ruffin, a journeyman big man who has yet to see any action this season.

Lakers trade C Mihm to Grizzlies for future second-rounder
The Los Angeles Lakers unloaded center Chris Mihm on Wednesday, sending him to the Memphis Grizzlies for a conditional second-round pick in the 2013 draft.

A former seventh overall pick out of Texas in 2000, Mihm has been with the Lakers since 2004, serving as the team's starter in the middle the following two seasons. He has endured injury troubles the last two years and has fallen back on the depth chart as Los Angeles has improved its frontcourt depth.

"The last two years have been difficult and frustrating for Chris in coming back from his ankle injury," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "But Chris has handled himself with true professionalism the entire time. With the depth of our roster, especially at the center position, Chris has not had the opportunity to play that he deserves."

T-Wolves C Jefferson undergoes successful knee surgery
Minnesota Timberwolves center Al Jefferson underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament that cut short his season.

The operation was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. After Jefferson recovers, he will begin the rehabilitation process, which may take six to eight months. An MRI last Monday confirmed the extent of the injury, which occurred with 27 seconds remaining in a February 8 loss to the New Orleans Hornets when Jefferson came down awkwardly on his right leg while attempting to block Sean Marks' shot underneath the basket. The injury came at a time when Jefferson had been playing the best basketball of his career.

The centerpiece of the trade that sent Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics last season, Jefferson is averaging a team-high 23.1 points and 11.0 rebounds after recording his sixth straight double-double in Sunday's loss. He had 25 points and 14 rebounds before exiting. "This is an unfortunate situation for Al and we wish him a quick recovery," Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale said last week. "Al has been playing at an All-Star level all season and has been our go-to-guy on the court. "Knowing Al, he will work hard in his rehab efforts to get back on the court as soon as possible. In the interim, I'm confident that the other players on our roster will step up and meet this challenge."The fifth-year pro set career highs with 21.1 points and 11.1 rebounds while playing in all 82 games for the Timberwolves last season.

Celtics G Tony Allen undergoes thumb surgery
Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen is expected to miss two months after undergoing left thumb surgery on Wednesday.

Allen was hurt during practice last week before the Celtics started their current road trip with wins at New Orleans and Dallas. He is averaging 7.8 points through 40 games this season.

Allen's surgery comes one day after the Celtics traded guard Sam Cassell and cash considerations to the Sacramento Kings for a second-round pick in the 2015 draft.

Clippers F Randolph suspended two games
Los Angeles Clippers forward Zach Randolph was suspended two games for striking Louis Amundson of the Phoenix Suns in the face, the NBA announced Wednesday.

Randolph was ejected from Tuesday's game with 32 seconds left in the first quarter when he punched Amundson during a scuffle.

Randolph, who is averaging a team-leading 21.9 points, will miss Wednesday's game against Phoenix and Sunday's contest at Portland.

McGrady to have microfracture surgery, out for season
Houston Rockets swingman Tracy McGrady will have microfracture surgery on his bothersome left knee and miss the remainder of the season, he announced on his web site Wednesday. McGrady, who has missed 19 games this season thanks to the injury, had arthroscopic surgery on the knee last May and has not been healthy in the wake of the procedure. "As some of you may have heard, my season has come to an end," McGrady said. "My knee hasn't been right all year, and we can't seem to get the pain to go away. We've tried just playing through it, taking back-to-backs off, and extended periods of rest, but none of it has really been effective in limiting the discomfort and allowing me to just go out there and play."

The two-time NBA scoring champion, who missed most of January while conditioning the knee, had played in seven of eight games since returning from those two weeks on the sideline. He missed one game with a sprained ankle. However, he apparently cannot shake the knee problems. "I've met with numerous doctors and gotten a number of opinions, and unfortunately I will be undergoing microfracture surgery on my left knee immediately," McGrady said. "Microfracture surgery is a serious procedure, but I'm confident that I will be able to return next season with the same strength and explosiveness you are all used to seeing from me."

McGrady, who has yet to make it past the first round of the playoffs in his NBA career, has averaged just 15.6 points this season while shooting a career-low 38.8 percent from the field. In his fifth season with the club, the perennial All-Star has yet to play a full campaign with Houston thanks to a myriad of injuries. He came the closest in his first season with the team, when he appeared in 78 contests.

Trail Blazers C Oden out Wednesday
Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will miss Wednesday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a bone chip in his left knee.

The oft-injured Oden suffered his latest ailment last Thursday when he was hurt during a collision in a game at Golden State. He then missed the Rookie Challenge at All-Star Weekend. The 7-foot Oden is listed as day-to-day

Oden, the heralded top pick of the 2007 draft, missed all of last season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. He suffered a foot injury in his 2008 debut, forcing him to miss six games.
