Breaking News: Thunder Rescind Chandler Trade

Post#1 » by Draino » Thu Feb 19, 2009 4:00 am

The Hornets and Thunder agreed to a trade that sent Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma City in exchange for Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and DeVon Hardin.

One day later, the four players will be going back to their original teams.

Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced in a press release on Wednesday evening that the team has rescinded its trade with the Hornets for Chandler.

“We were pleased to add Tyson to the Thunder roster,” said Presti. “During the course of the physical examination and outside consultations some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. We felt that this course of action was the best for our organization.”

Rescinding trades in the NBA is a very rare occurrence. During the summer of 2005, the Nets and Blazers agreed on a trade that sent Shareef Abdur-Rahim to New Jersey, but it was rescinded following a physical examination.

Well, I think it is very stupid for the Thunder do this. Chandler might not be healthy right now in the middle of the season, he can play better. He's worth the risk of Smith/Wilcox. Nice, I don't think it was a good move at all for New Orleans. Just look how big of a role he played last year, I want teams to compete make deals because there trying to improve the team damn it. I thought this was a nice steal for Thunder, don't why they did this. Hornets owner is still going try to trade him again, he should try to win a title in New Orleans not slash salary.

This was a few hours after Tyson Chandler told the whole upper management to **** off and pulled the middle finger on owner George Shinn and called him a "cheap old bastard" on his way out, .

Pretty crazy. There's gotta be more to the story than the Thunder just not liking the look of his sprained ankle... In any case, best of luck to the Hornets in trying to find their way through these crazy times!

I wonder now that the trade has been rescinded did the Hornets doctors knew more about Chandler foot issues than was known to the public?

he must have major toe issues for OKC to rescind the trade. Chandler to OKC was a steal. Makes me wonder how bad is that foot/toe. Should be a red-flag for NO fans.

That's BS. They are not broke and are having one of their best financial years ever. They had over 11,000 season tickets this season, one of the largest increases over the prior year in the NBA. Plus, their new minority owner has very deep pockets.

If they rescinded it because of his Asthma than they must've figured they were getting fleeced financially.

Why do people on these boards always think these owners are happy to lose money, for the honour of having an NBA team?

Because Shinn is making money this year and last, he's just a cheap bastard that wants to make even more.

The Hornets have a history of trading away injury prone players (Larry Johnson/Jamal Mashburn/Baron Davis) it's just the organizations philosophy. So perhaps the "we're broke" rumours are a bit exaggerated.

The most reliable info i've read is that it was a "turf toe" condition that got red-flagged as the examiner didn't believe it could be operated on (Tyson refused to have it operated on last off-season)

I don't think its all bad news for the Hornets, they'll work on something in the offseason to get under the lux tax and they'll go from there, glad to have Tyson back, hopefully this whole episode shakes the players into action (like slamming Orlando last night)

I don't get why the Hornets wanted to trade Chandler in the first place. Do they not want to pay him? I know that I would not want to overpay for a guy that can't shoot. Besides that he does compliment Chris Paul. He plays good D too.
