Hornets might get a little desperate. Time for us to get in there with a Foster/Rasho/2nd offer?

I'd like to get Chandler, but I don't know how keen I would be to include Foster. I'd be curious about his injury as well since our training staff doesn't exactly have my confidence.

I agree. They can't keep him after this. Expirings should do the trick, I think he would actually REALLY improve our teams defense.

The injury might be a concern, and i would be sad to see Foster go, but i don't see him as a major player in our future plans. Although we do already have a young C in Hibbert, as a value trade it might be worth a look. I'll admit, I'm only intrigued because I'm bored.

I kinda feel like he didn't wanna play for them or something, but I am probably wrong. Chandler is only 26, I say bring him on.

I'm just guessing, but I think it probably had to do with his back. Hasn't Chandler already had some back problems? Maybe something caused a red flag in the physical.

We might as well use our expirings to get something (at least the fans should think so; the ones not forking over the cash to pay the players and possible luxury tax). We won't be able to sign anybody major in the next 3 years anyway, and probably even more then that. Really I don't see us ever making a big signing, besides a player we drafted. So trade while we can!

Get Shaq now. Sell a bunch of tickets and save the Suns almost $40 million. Make them give up a draft pick to save so much money. Then next year at this time if we aren't going to do anything except lose in the first round of the playoffs or not even make it to the playoffs then trade him! He will have big time value since he is a $20 million expiring contract before the summer of Lebron. Make a trade for a couple young and promising players, a guy whose contract is pretty big but is gone a year or 2 after that and then get a 1st rounder or 2 out of it! BRILLIANT!

Dear Pacers,

If we get Shaq I will go to at least 5 more games then I usually would for the rest of this season, and if he is still on our team next year then even more. I know I know, Shaq won't want to play here. If he got traded here he wouldn't publicly say anything about how he hated being traded because he wouldn't want a bad reputation. He'd be funny and try to embrace the year or year and a half and then go to any team he wants to try and win a championship before he retires. This way we get at worst a draft pick or 2 and a young player or something. We wouldn't lose much money because there would be an average of 2,000 or so more fans per game, and the Pacers would actually get some national coverage!!

I always look way too much into the deadline with things that'll never happen. I don't care if Shaq is way passed his prime, it'd be cool to say Shaq was a Pacer and I got to see him play as a Pacer 20 years from now. Do it, c'mon, do it do it. I am sure I will get hell for this b/c I have already posted this twice, but you must agree that a lot of my logic is true with being able to acquire draft picks and youngsters.

Man, you are super-high on Shaq. He might be awesome for a season, maybe two, but he's looking to retire, and we'd have to give up young pieces for him, meaning a serious dent in our rebuilding plan.

It looks like it was his big toe. And M4E, I do want Shaq, but mainly for what he could land us next year and boost ticket sales. I don't think he would add many wins to our team. If you want to see my master plan and have an extra 2 hours to read something, here ya go:

Depending on his physical i'd offer Rasho, Baston and JT for Chandler and Antonio Daniels. they almost have to trade Chandler now.

That would be a good trade that is the exact one I put on the trade board. I would prefer Daniels but I would go as far as to take Mo Pete if that means we get rid of Tinsley.

Pacers and Hornets talking about Chandler.....

Thursday, 11 a.m.: Pacers interested in Chandler

The big surprise of the morning was interest from the Indiana Pacers in making a run at Tyson Chandler, who was back in New Orleans after his trade to Oklahoma City had been rescinded. The Pacers could offer a combination of expiring contracts attached to center Rasho Nesterovic ($8.4 million), forward Marquis Daniels ($6.8 million) and point guard Jarrett Jack ($2 million), in addition to center Jeff Foster.

A potential trade for Chandler would come with a lot of luggage: Would he be able to pass his physical with Indiana, and would the Pacers -- who like a lot of teams are losing money -- be willing to take on salary and bump against the luxury tax ceiling next season? But Chandler would definitely improve the team in the company of a healthy Mike Dunleavy and All-Star Danny Granger next season.

Hmm...Is it just me, or is that package he proposes we trade to New Orleans a lot better than the one they just accepted from OKC? Rasho, Daniels, Jack, AND Foster? I'm not sure I'm on board with that.

Tyson Chandler is very attractive, but it will be a gamble if we pick him up, expecially if we lose the stability of Foster.

If he can stay healthy, he'd give the Pacers the shotblocking as well as the athleticism they need.

If TJ Fors looks to pass a little more, the fact that Tyson can be wherever you choose to throw the ball is valuable. You chuck it up in the general direction of the basket, he's so fast he might just reach it in time to throw it in.

I used to think this as well, but Shaq is not going to be traded as an expiring... PERIOD... Unless you want to trade him for Eddy Curry... There is a thread on the Trade board... About the list of bad contracts, where on pages 3-4 a good point is made... Expiring contracts are of NO value...

killbuckner wrote:Expiring contracts actually aren't valuable at all- they are worth slightly less than nothing. Its just that sometimes players with long contracts (even good players) are worth MUCH less than nothing. Expiring contracts have value only for how much negative value you are willing to take in return. In the current economic climate there are just a lot more players with negative value so expiring contracts will seem more valuable.

As my financial understanding of the NBA has evolved, I have come to see it this way as well, and could not have said it any better than killbuckner...
