Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
Hey yo!
I just don't get. Bynum might be gone for the season after his injury so Lakers trade Mihm!?!
Now they are really really thin in the middle.
No Turiaf, no Bynum, no VladRad and now no Mihm????
They want the ring and their only legit power players are Pau and Odom?
Unless there's something else brewing, I don't get it.
Any thoughts? Kind regards.

Re: Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
What was Mihm doing for them even with Bynum out? Nothing. Powell has been a decent backup and Odom is playing great right now. Mihm rarely got off the bench from what I can tell.

Maybe they will pick up Cassell? If Smith gets bought out they will definitely be interested...
Or they just wanted to open up a roster spot for a trade today...

Yes but when you are a legit challenger, you must at least have a casuality insurance.
In this game, injuries happen. This year I would not trade POB for a future second round pick.
Even if Mihm has not played some time ago he showed he belonged here.

I don't think this is much different than the Celtics moving Cassell. Because of the luxury tax, a player not being used is moved, and everyone saves money. Although some poo poo about deals being done to only save a few hundred thousand on I suppose the belief that rich people have so much money they don't care about money, the reality is that savings hundreds of thousands by moving un-used assets makes sense.

Re: Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
On the surface it's pretty much a wash. Whether LA needs help up front is a moot point, Chris Mihm is a nothing on the basketball court. It could definitely be a precursor to adding a bought out player though, say it ain't so Steph!

It's a couple million. Luxury tax, have to match dollar for dollar over the cap.

Re: Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
What do we do with Cassell.. u guys are nuts..
Mihm was helping with the Bynum training and now that utility is lost as Bynum will be gone for another 6 weeks.. Josh Powell is doing well in Bynums absence and actually doing much better than the options we had last year i.e. Mihm (a has been player) and Turiaf(No offense player)..
Josh Powell is great on defense , offense and also on the boards.. u cant as much.. Mihm and Mbenga are dispensable.. dont know what we have kept Mbenga for..
This also means we are not after Joe Smith..
Our short fall was guard position with Sun not Nba ready... the Vlad rad trade took care of it by bringing Shannon Brown..
This trade is merely from a salary cap standpoint.

This trade means squat.
But it does remind me of the most befuddling 5 minutes of the season last year. When Phil Jackson mysteriously put Mihm in the game after barely playing all season, in an elimination game no less, just to watch him get torched in those 5 minutes.

The difference with the Cassell trade is Cassell was an expiring so the Kings made money off of the trade while Memphis has to pay his salary next season. It's another example of a team helping out the Lakers. He's injury prone and not very good to begin with, so I'm surprised the Lakers could get an offer for either Mihm or Radmonovich.

I believe Mihm is expiring actually. And there were financial considerations as part of the trade, I didn't see they were made public, and given that the Lakers save the luxury tax, there could have been pretty substancial dollars going to Memphis to do the "favor".

Lakers didn't need Mihm unless they knew Bynum wasn't coming back this year. By trading Mihm, it's pretty clear that the Lakers know Bynum's gonna come back in a couple of weeks.
Powell is a pretty good backup, he's like a bigger version of Leon Powe.
At Center/PF, Lakers have Pau/Odom/Bynum/Powell/mBenga. That's plenty.

Re: Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
That was strickly a financial move, and your wrong on Bynum he's not going to be out the rest of the season. His time table for return was set by the team not the doctors. The MCL usually takes 4-6 weeks to heal, the team just want to make sure he 100% before he comes back that's why the time was set at 8-12 weeks.Bruiser wrote:Hey yo!

And we're not missing Turiaf as much as you outsiders think, Josh Powell has a way better game than Ronny, and Vlad was pouting after being booted from the starting 5 so trading him was the bottom line. And Mbenga gives us the actual toughness you need from a 5 man, what ever he gives is better than Mihm.
But don't get me wrong I understand your confusion, because Bynum's injury last season was the exact reason they dealt for Pau. But like I said Bynum will return this time. So something could be up but I doubt it.

Re: Lakers trade Mihm for peanuts!!!
Bynum has a history of returning slowly from injuries. If he is going to be out for 4-8 weeks it would be smart to add another 4-8 weeks based on his past.
