Alston traded in 3-Way

Post#1 » by TMACFORMVP » Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:10 pm

Marc Stein: Looks like we have a fairly significant three-way deal that has been submitted to the league just before the trade deadline.

NBA front-office sources tell ESPN.com that Orlando is acquiring Rafer Alston from Houston to fill the void created at point guard by Jameer Nelson's shoulder injury.

The Rockets will receive Memphis guard Kyle Lowry, Orlando forward Brian Cook and perhaps two other minimum-salaried players to make the finances work.

The Grizzlies will receive a first-round pick from Orlando.

WTF
i wanted Lowry as a backup PG 2 years ago
not our starting PG
great now we have two under 6' PGs

PS
Lowry is much worse shooting the ball than Alston

or
maybe Alston is the locker room problem for T-Mac since he called out on T-Mac

Our biggest need is a PG, we trade our starter for a backup? and Brian Cook (who is a decent shooter)

Horrible trade, I hope there is another trade to follow this one up. Lowry = 24% from 3....

This trade makes ZERO sense.

Was Rafer the person T-mac was having the problem with?

We are going to tank now, because as much as i love AB, i do not think 2 small PG are going to lead us to the playoffs.

I like Lowry more than Brooks honestly speaking, but I don't like either of them over Alston, he's the better shooter and much better "true" PG.

So I'm guessing we've given up hope for this season? I don't even know who this Lowry guy is. I do know Brian Cook is absolute garbage though.... Scott Padget/Steve Novak version 2.

His ast/to is ok, fg is higher, 3p is lower, but most importantly he's only been getting 21 minutes with the GRIZZLIES, who aren't known for their pg play. His defense can't be as good, which means he's pry backing up or platooning with Brooks.

.... If Brooks can't be starter material, ....

Don't get too excited about being rid of Rafer everyone, this guy seems to shoot worse. I'm with Max, he would make an decent backup it looks like, but... how are we going to use him with Brooks?

I'm confused. Thought this was a salary dump at first, but then Cook gets 3.5 mil? (how did that happen???) So... what the heck is going on???????

Someone explain to me what's so special about Lowry.

7.6 ppg 3.6 apg .246 3p % on a bad grizzlies team.

Seems like a scrub to me.
