Our playoff fate lies in the hands of Joe Smith and Steph

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:45 pm

Now the waiting game begins, I don't think as configured today we can beat the lakers in a 7 game series (I think we can beat anyone else). If we get Joe smith I think it definitely ups our chances, if we get Joe Smith and a focused Marbury I think we are absolutly favorites vs them without bynum and even with them with Bynum.

If we get those 2 our 2nd unit goes from below average to above average, we will again have the ability to go small and most importantly we can rest Pierce and Ray more going forward becuase we have a true 2nd unit elite scoring threat in marbury and a complimentary player in Smith.

I hope we got both, either one will be a big help, but I don't think we can win a tittle unless we get at least one of the two.

Smith is more essential than Marbury, honestly...

But both would be nice!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

You don't think we can currently beat the Lakers as constituted ??? Wow, we beat them with the same team last year.

League sources are saying that Marbury won't be playing for any teams in the playoffs this year. That is because the Knicks aren't going to buy him out until after March 1. That's another reason we got Solomon.

I still hope we can get Joe Smith.

No we didn't we beat them with James posey and PJ brown. They have gotten better, Rondo is improved and Ray is playing better, but KG is not playing as well and we have no backup 3, really nobody. Who guards Kobe if pierce and ray get in foul trouble, or more importantly, who gaurds kobe to keep ray and pierce out of foul trouble, who is going to score for our 2nd unit, without PJ hitting those clutch jumpers do we win the title? Without Poseys D and big 3's do we, I don't think we do. I think danny made a mistake by drafting Giddons and re-signing TA. We need to fill some holes badly.

This doesn't need to be said but that Solomon trade was not that exciting. So the buyout deadline is going to be the real deadline us celtics fans are going to get excited about.

Becuase of the improvement of Rondo, we only need to get about 80% of what we got from Posey and Brown, I think improvments to leon and baby and scal make that only 60% but right now we are still 60% of that contribution away. However Marbury over cassell would be a big upgrade, and more then offset the downgrade from Joe Smith to Posey. Joe Smith can give us 70% of what james posey did, and that could be enough.

I agree spin. This team as constructed cannot beat the lakers. I really do not See Marbury getting bought out nor do I see Joe Smith coming here either.

Ainge made a huge mistake by not addressing the bench this year. He signed Cassel who he traded, and then he signed POB who he traded as well. He got nothing for either player.

Hopefully Ainge learned his lesson and will do a better job next off season with the bench.

Great job jumping to conclusions over an unfinished product. It may not be Joe and Steph but we sure as hell aren't going to let those 2 spots go to waste
