This is Giddens' chance...

Post#1 » by campybatman » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:48 pm

I figure with the lost of Tony and Pruitt likely to lose time with the inevitable addition of another point guard. Giddens could see some playing time. If House is cold... Throw him a bone. See what you've in him. You might as well...

With their available bodies at 11, J.R. Giddens is being called up from the D-League and will be with the Celts when they play the Jazz tonight.

It's Giddens chance to watch Ray, Paul and Rondo get 40+ minutes, that's about it imo.

I hope so but I doubt it. Doc seems like he'd rather play Walker, and Scal should be back so he might just have a big lineup with Scal at the 3.

Don`t see Giddens getting any minutes this year. That is why I wanted him to get traded.

I think he could help this team but if he doesn`t get on the court he can`t.

Lol, that's about how I see it too, aside from the possibility of a blow out. I'm pretty high on Giddens, he's got length and athletisicm, was a good defender and the best rebounding guard in the nation in college, and has the potential to be a decent scorer also, but I'll be surprised if he makes it off the bench at all this season in anything other than a few garbage mins. Not a great year to be developing the youth with the tight race for home court I guess.

I expect Giddens will replace Cassell's minutes.

Good luck with it kid.

I think Scal's back so he's got no chance.

1 Rondo, Pru
2 Allen, House, Gidds
3 Pierce, Scal, Walker
4 Ticket, Powe
5 Perk, Baby

Thus far, Walker has been more flash than substance. Why not give JR some time?

If the Celtics are smart they would give Giddens and Walker more playing time and hope both do well for two reasons. 1st it would help the team now on the courts and 2nd it would increase their trade value during the off-season and into next season. The reason why the Cs couldn't make deal for actual players had to do with that fact they had not tradible assets outside of the big 4. Yes I included Rondo as part of the big 4.

Remember that House can and likely will opt out after the season. Tony can stay home. He'll be rusty if he does come back for the playoffs. Split minutes between House and Giddens.

Personality, I believe Rivers and Ainge are making a mistake not seeing what they've in Giddens. You know what you've in Tony. Nothing wrong with finding minutes for both Pruitt and Giddens in the second half.

This is true, but unfourtunatley we are going to be battling it out for the number spot in the East so I don't know how much experiment time I want to give Giddens, I'd like to see him given the chance also, but won't he be sent back down if we pick up two more guys from buyouts? I'm done with the Tony Allen project and hope he's out forever, Pruitt has dissapointed, and sure House can get cold. Give Giddens some minutes but I want House out there down the stretch of the regular season so he can catch fire, the guy will never be "sharp" because he is such a streaky shooter.

I understand what's at stake in the east for Boston. I just feel it's to your advantage to give these young players confidence during the regular season so that the head coach can then feel confident in turning to one of them during the playoffs. That is, if a starter or if the sixth or seventh player off the bench gets injured.

There's no guarantee that Ainge will get the players he wants. I hope it isn't Moore. He's a slightly better O'Bryant, in my opinion.

So what else is new? Its the Celtics tradition. Draft/sign players that we don't use. Its probably Doc's idea...nah.
