I started listening to EEI in the early 90's and completely stopped listening about three years ago. reason why? All baseball all the time. I got satellite radio and hav'nt listened since. Btw Farrell's show is pretty good if your interested in sports nationally.

Agreed. I like Dale and Holley. Can't listen to any of the other shows, though. I only listen to the big show when Ainge will be on, and they ask him bad questions.

This issue has nothing to do with the Patrick O''Bryant trade. It has much to do with the overall programming at WEEI which for some reason fails to spend enough time discussing the Celtics, but will spend days discussing the same baseball or football topic over and over again.

But how will it tarnish his image?
What about his cousin, I bet he's an interesting guy..
Should his records be taken away?
Wait, this caller's 2nd cousin once ate at a McDonalds with a guy he thought took steroids!!

Ordway is known for his thirteen years as commentator for the Boston Celtics.

Actually, Ordway is not the program director for WEEI. He was years ago, but now Jason Wolfe is in charge of programming.
I readily acknowledge that WEEI is heavy on baseball, particularly the Red Sox. I'm sure part of that is due to Entercom's broadcast partnership with the Red Sox (yes, they have a broadcast partnership with the Celtics and a media agreement with the Patriots, but neither comes close financially to the relationship that they have with the Red Sox). However, any radio program is dictated not only by the host, but by the callers.
Personally, I am SICK of A-Rod/steroids talk, but the callers are not (not necessarily the listeners, but the CALLERS...obviously only a small percentage of those who listen are actually bold enough to call in). It is clearly the biggest topic in sports, much bigger than the Patrick O'Bryant trade. And yes, there were other trades in the NBA today, but let's be realistic...there was nothing earth-shattering. Dale & Holley had a decent number of basketball calls today, as there was plenty of speculation prior to the trade deadline. But when it came and went, there wasn't a "sexy" name that was in a new location. So, there was no interest from the callers, nor from the hosts to focus on basketball.
Now, personally, I would have had a basketball expert on the show today just in case. Even if they did not want to have someone as a co-host, I would have has someone call in for an interview to go over the the day's transactions. But, they apparently opted not to go in that direction.
The fact is the Red Sox rule Boston when it comes to sports. Not just Boston, but the vast majority of New England. The Patriots' success this decade has secured second place for them, and despite the Celtics' 17th championship, they are still in third place, with a hot Bruins team closing in on them. I dare say if the Bruins actually win the Stanley Cup, the Celtics may drop down to 4th, as Boston is dying to be a legit hockey town again.
WEEI is far from perfect...there are hosts that I like, and then there are other hosts that make my skin crawl. But, apparently they are doing something right because their ratings are phenomenal!

Everyone hates D and C. I don't know, I started listening a little while ago, I find some of the stuff they do funny. Meter mainly. But when they talk politics, which is a lot of the time, I have to shut it off.
Dale and Holley is my favorite, like said. I like listening to Butch Stearns on the weekends too.

I'm not a regular listener because 1) I'm not a die hard Pats/Sox fan and 2) the reception is pretty bad, but:
1)Planet Mikey (seems like a genuinely friendly, affable guy that doesn't speak for the sake of hearing his own voice)
2)Dale and Holley (big fan of Holley)
3)Big Show (during the 5% of the time they focus on the Celtics)
And like you, I avoid D&C, especially Callahan. He lost me when he started talking about "white guilt" as the reason white Americans wanted Obama as president (he and Holley started really getting into it during the program overlap). I've never had my intelligence insulted that blatantly in my life. That's just the tip of the iceberg, sadly.

WEEI should have discussed the Celtics from 2-3:00PM and then discussed baseball and steroids as much as they wanted to from 3:00PM till the final hour of the show. That would have been fair for us Celtics fans. Again, this is not about Patrick O'Bryant. I am not even sure why his name was brought up here as a point of view. What I was focusing on today is the Celtics trade possibilities and, more realistically, their freeing up roster space for a couple of potential free agents. Having a basketball expert on the show to discuss the players who may be waived after the trade deadline and become members of the Celtics is far more interesting than hearing for the millionth time in the past week the same stories and conversations concerning A-Rod and steroids.

What brought me to WEEI was the Big Show. I like it for its comedic side. The skits are funny once in a while. However, the talking over and interrupting among the hosts and host toward the callers can be frustrating to those who are listening to all this going on. And Ordway is seemingly always on vacation. Then we're stuck with Sheppard. I like the show in general but it never feels like a sports talk show. Instead it usually feels like a bunch of friends hanging out and talking among themselves. I mean it has an unorganized feel to it. But, they're always laughing... So, it makes me laugh.
The morning show usually disinterest me because A) the show isn't entirely about sports but politics or things that happened in the news and B) I don't care for Callahan. I'm uncertain of why the two of them where resigned. Wasn't there no drop-off in ratings when they were temporarily off the air over a contract dispute? With the guests who'd filled in... You didn't even noticed they'd gone.
I don't mind Dale but Holley tends to be irksome by contrast. I don't dig his personality. That horn or whatever that sound you hear is dumb. Overall, they've the better show. Still, I'm more inclined to tune in to The Big Show.
Adams I dislike as much as Callahan. If you look the meaning up of a homer, you're apt to see Mikey's name or Heinsohn's name. That turns me off. Not to mention, Adams is too zany and too irritating to ever like.

OK. I'm through with this thread. I'll quit lest I be accused of being no different than WEEI by being overly repetitive with my criticisms and concerns over one story. LOL!

Yeah, you've def. got a point here. I was more or less just trying to say that a POB trade isn't really that big of a deal and I was surprised that someone thought that they should be talking about that over the Arod/steroids thing. Like I said, I didn't hear the show, in fact I stopped listening to WEEI a long time ago because I feel like most of them just take the most ridiculous stance on the topics they're discussing just to promote themselves. I'd much rather visit boards like this one to get a point of view from people who know what they're talking about instead of a couple blowhards on the radio who just end up pissing me off.

They SHOULD talk about A-Rod, IMHO. That guy is getting off easy. he should be suspended for at least a year and stripped of his MVP. It's not any different then a drugged up sprinter winning the gold metal. They would lose that gold.

Plus EVERYONE hates A-Rod, even Yankees fans, so there would be no outcry whatsoever (even Bonds has Giants fans!)
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Re: The Big Show is discussing steroids, not the Celtics. Why?
I realize the big show gets these big ratings but those guys are way overrated. Ordway is a joke him and the others disrespect the callers and don't let them talk they talk over the callers all the time and fun of themselves and talk about there exploits . Shepard is much better if he had his own show without ordway and sorry deossie and smerlas save them for football season only. Merloni seems to be decent but he is the baseball analyst. The station needs a basketball analyst who is in studio like merloni. Maxwell can't be there all the time because he is the celtics broadcaster. Why wouldn't WEEI get a basketball guy like merloni is the baseball guy. Why not get an anlyst who is there in the studio even if it is say twice a week or something. Scot Pollard might not be a bad choice for this being he played on the team recently or some former celtic maybe ML Carr played and worked for them. The show with Dale and Holley is a much better show they are more low key and they let the callers talk. But WEEI does not say much about the celtics maybe that will change with the playoffs. Big show is overrated if you want more talk than jokes and much less disrespect to the callers then listen from 10-2.
