this is excellent news, especially considering how well the secondary was poised to play without asante anyway. instead of forcing meriweather into more duty than would be ideal early, this will allow him to be the nickel in the situations it fits best, not all nickel situations by default because gay will also be a nickel back. this will help meriweather get some more time at safety as well, and with the depth we'll have between gay at cb, sanders/andrews at safety and meriweather at both, the nickel and dime flexibility and options for moving wilson and harrison around multiply exponentially.

this is good, both for regular defense because asante is our best corner, and for option packages and schemes

Cool, I was hoping that the Niners got him but we got Nate Clements.

This actually ends up helping me too cus I have the Patriots as my D in my fantasy football league.
