Amare Out 8 Weeks -- Torn Retina

Post#1 » by SSOL » Fri Feb 20, 2009 3:21 pm

Can any of the guys in the know confirm this? It is being reported on two other boards that Amare may be out for the season because of being poked in the eye the other night against the Clippers.

Honestly though, you would think Sarver would have thrown away the season and traded Shaq yesterday if this was true.

I hope so. He said his source was credible and he is a solid poster on the phxsuns board. Hopefully we can get confirmation soon.

RSF, from a Suns fan on phxsuns:

"Didn't want to start a new thread for this, although I'm sure it will be a leading topic tomorrow, but I was told late this evening that Amare is going to be out for the remainder of the season. He was poked in the eye (again) during the Clippers game and Jay Schwartz told him that he needs surgery. Source is very credible and I asked in disbelief multiple times only to be assured that I was not being 'punked'."

RSF,

It wouldn't be all over the headlines yet. Let's see what the news is after shoot around today. If Amare is there then this was all B.S. If he isn't...

I am not the source. I just asked the question. Here is the link. http://phxsuns.net/showthread.php?t=1379&page=3

It wouldn't be over the headlines if it hasn't been reported yet. It will be everywhere in a few hours IF it is true.

This is great...

Phoenix Suns forward Amar’e Stoudemire underwent successful surgery today to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye. The procedure was performed earlier this morning by Dr. Pravin Dugel at Spectra Eye Institute in Sun City, Arizona.

“We are very glad to hear that Amar’e should have a 100 percent recovery relative to his vision and his long-term prognosis is excellent,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Steve Kerr. “Obviously, it is very disappointing to lose him at this time. We are all very excited about the progress the team is making, but Amar’e’s health and the health of all our players is our number one concern.”

Stoudemire’s return to physical activity is estimated at eight weeks depending upon his healing process. Dr. Dugel stresses that recovery varies on a case-by-case basis.

Phoenix’s leading scorer for the third-straight season, Stoudemire has played in all 53 games and is averaging a team-high 21.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.08 blocks and 2.0 assists. One of only two Suns to appear in every game (53) this season, Stoudemire became the youngest Suns player to reach 9,000 career points on Feb. 6.

The Phoenix Suns host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at 7 p.m. at US Airways Center.
