Re: Marvin Williams
Well, I think I might underestimate him. I remember reading and seeing him in action last year/playoffs. He is an improving player in terms of offense/defense. He has said that he will add a 3 point shot this year and he did. This shows that he has a good work ethic to start with. I like that in a player. And as well as he is an athletic big forward (6'8''-ish). I want the Kings at least throw some money at him in the offseason considering that the Hawks incompetence of signing/retaining players.

Re: Marvin Williams
Thank you for a little bit of concession kingsfan, but lightning, I don't get why you think that sessions would be our answer. I would take holiday, curry, rubio and teague over him personally. He's alright, but he's no franchise saver, to use your words. The reason why we need marvin is because we have a blaring hole at SF for our future, and there aren't any top 5 SF in this years' draft. There are an abundance of PG though, so it would be intelligent to sign a SF and draft a PG, not visa versa.
And as for the kings drafting Griffin, they won't. Thompson is our PF, so if we get the top pick, we can just trade it down and get some value for it. Then if we do take him, thompson becomes superfluous, so we can trade him, cause there would be literally no reason to have a guy with his talent rot on the bench.
And the Marvin-Artest comparison is not direct, it's a molding. That's the kind of player Williams is, not talent wise, but what his strengths and weaknesses are.

Re: Marvin Williams
But Artest is a fantastic defender, while Marvin is a one dementional defender - all athletisisum and little defensive skill. It's completely true, Nocioni is not a SF of the future. But Garcia is a great role player, and Greene could very well be a fine player. Plus, Thompson very well could play SF.
Putting ALL of our hopes into Marvin is foolish, because A. you're putting all your hope in a restricted FA who realistically has a very slim chance of coming here, and B. you're really overrating him. I'm not going to pay him more then 7-8 mil, even if he DOES diside to leave the Hawks and the Hawks don't match the offer.
Honestly here. You've got what 99% of the basketball scouts call a star here in Griffin. You're going to pass him over, EVEN if you need a point? I LOVE Holiday and hope we get him, but only if Griffin is NOT aviable, and thats saying something because I'm a 'DRAFT NEEDS' kind of guy.
The facts are these. If we get the number one pick, it'll take a great trade to convince us to move down. Passing on Griffin, unless a fantastic deal is presented, is just non-realistic, unless Rubio makes himself aviable and chances are that wobn't happen either.
I'd be happy to see him in a Kings uni - I think he has flaws, and he's not gonna ever be more then a athletic 3rd or 4th option, but he's a decent player and at the right price, hell yeah. But I'm not going to say a Marvin/drafted point is even close to Griffin. Should we end up with a point guard, say Holiday (because I don't think Rubio's coming out, and I'm not a fan of score first pass third PGs like Teague and Curry), then I think we can put out offers to guys like Marvin. But I'd recommend not getting your hopes up.
I understand irrational fanboyism, but putting all your hopes into nabbing Marvin Williams won't save the fransice, and realistically has a small chance of happening.

We still wont have the money to sign anybody major unless we deal Nociani or K9 because the cap next year will be lowered by alot & plus as of now we have 57 million commited in salary next season & thats not counting signing anyone including our fulture draft picks !
Its a nice thought but unless we can rid ourselves between another 7 - 14 million in salary i would not get your hopes up to siging anyone significant !

K, I'm done arguing with you becuase you keep on saying that I'm being irrational. We need a SF, we need a PG, so that's what we need to go for. I am as gung ho about Griffin as anybody else, just ask NNN, we got into quite the argument over him. If I could have it my way, I would take Griffin and trade thompson for one of the top 6 picks where we could take a PG. But everyone says Thompson is our future PF, so I just kept my opinion to myself.
As for thompson being a SF, that's just stupid. That's 100% going off of what the draft scouting report says. If you have watched one kings game, you can see that thompson is closer to a center than a SF.
And you are saying that I'm being such an irrational fanboy, which is a really stupid insult if you ask me, but I say this because the kings need a SF that has the same talents as Williams, is young and can be had. If you can find another SF that has those pluses and minuses, then we can go after him.
I can see your argument being that we have Greene, and honestly, I don't see Greene ever getting the whole package together. If Petrie truly believes that Greene can be our guy at the 3 and it pans out, then I'll be wrong, but I just don't see the point in messing around with prospects and development when we can just pay Williams. We will have plenty of cap, and I'm sure someone would take Thomas next season because he will be expiring.
I guess to summarize for you, I want to get our future SF now when we have the chance. Who knows when we will have another opportunity like this where there will be a FA with this much talent and potential. Its not me being irrational, it's me wanting the kings to add another important piece to the puzzle.
