Our offense for week 1 is gonna be dull

Im happy with our Defense. But our offense is garbage. Im not happy with Driver,Jennings,Jackson, didnt see Morency yet. Bubba and Lee big deal. This gonna be a shaky offense. Which will force Farve into retirement this offseason. But he hasnt looked that hot either. So theres alot of finger pointing all over.

You're not happy with Driver?

James Jones seems like the real deal. The pass offense should be good.

I'm concerned about running back though.

You do know that Jacksonville had the #2 defense last year, giving up just 283 yards a game....

I don't know how anyone can panic during the preseason.

The passing game appears competent, with Driver/Jennings/Jones. The running game is going to be a major issue though, I can see us bottom 5 in the league in YPC.

It's going to be defense and Favre this year.

Funny how you make this thread and they have their best drive of the night, perhaps the pre-season. Just got stopped by two good defensive plays.

Jackson hasn't shown much but it doesn't look like the blocking is giving him much.

Agreed. I just don't think overall this team is built to run the ball. We're going to be passing a lot this year, again.

Yup. We're not going to overtake the Bears until we get a running game. Brandon Jackson probably won't contribute much this year, though the guy's got talent.

The coaches on both sides of the ball call vanilla plays in the preseason. They don't want to show defenses too many different looks. Save that stuff for when the games actually matter.

i am sorry but Favre is not capable of carrying the offense at this point of his career...i am hoping the O-line will gel and make some holes...both Jackson and Morency are capable players.

It was only one drive and it ended in a FG (not offense's fault though, defense just made two good plays) but did you miss that long drive the last time Favre was on the field?

I know it's becoming cool to bash Brett, but to ignore that drive (in which he made nice passes to 7 or 8 different receivers) is being ignorant.

I can't say that Rodgers is better than Favre right now.....no experience....Rodgers hasn't proven anything.....

But IMO the guys on offense tonight were a lot more active and energetic with A-Rod in there......is there a chance those offensive skill position guys get tired of Favre chewing on them after every incomplete pass? Maybe they were more energetic because Rodgers is much more mobile and active back there. Or maybe it's my imagination that any of this happened tonight.

Ryan Longwell never made a bad kick......someone just screwed up the placement on the snap. Every incomplete pass Brett throws seems to be blamed on the receiver running the wrong route.

I'm not sure Rodgers is better....I'd just hope that Rodgers gets his shot if our offense stagnates under Favre.

Whether he is capable or not is certainly up for debate, however the season will hinge on his production. We WILL NOT be a good running team this year. We have a young OL, two non-explosive backs, and the OL overall does not get good separation.

Last nights first half is pretty much EXACTLY what we are going to see in the regular season. Tough D, struggling to run the ball, and lots of passing to pick up first downs.

I dont think its debatable that Favre is capable of carrying this offense. He wouldn't have a chance if we dont get a running game going. That's not a knock on Brett, but you need to be an elite QB to lead a good O with no running game. There's debate whether he is in the top half top 3rd whatever, but he is no longer an elite player like he was.

ARod got it going more with our bottom of the barrel guys. I think Jones will be our next Freeman. Not sure how serious the Driver injury is. But this will give Jones time to get in the starting line up. Our running game is crap. Ya some of it has to do with the OLINE. But come on. With our lousy running game. I expect Favre throwing 600 passes easily.

So far your absolutely right.

Funny since the ZBS is suppose to be soooo good that anyone can run behind it. So far that's BS. Right now even LT couldn't find a hole.

What is noteworthy is Jacksonville had #2 defense last year and only finished 8-8. How's that saying go again? Defenses win championships? Heck they did not even make playoffs with #2 defense.

So even IF our defense is as great as it appears -we need O to make playoffs. Has TT built it? Maybe next year. Unless Brett can pass beyond belief.

Its not gonna matter who plays. IF either QB has an O that absolutely cannot run the ball and has to pitch a bunch of passes for any yardage (like last year) then the opposing D can just lay back and by sheer volume of passng plays - there are going to be miscues and interceptions.

One more resason ARod is blessed to have Brett take the heat again this year with an O that can't run to save its life.

Here's some things that can help a running game:

a) Having a QB that can scramble and throw rolling out of the pocket. Favre was a master of that.....he can't or doesn't do that anymore. Right now the opposing DE/LB's can just sit in their zones and wait for the RB's.

b) Having a QB that can be a threat on passes of 20 yards or greater. Favre can't do that anymore either.

That said, I won't absolve TT of the fact he didn't pick up a proven RB this offseason.

Not sure how old you are PP - but a little history reminder...

Scott Hunter - 1972 - NFC Central Champs

Hunter had the most awkward run and was terrible at it
and his passing
the guy couldn't throw 2 yards without a flutter

Of course we had Brockington & Lane but point is you are really reaching blaming our running woes on Brett. Of course he's in decline but do you want to blame him for the defenses blown coverages also?
