Camby Almost Dealt to Spurs

According to multiple league sources, however, the Spurs did come precariously close to prying shot-blocking center Marcus Camby from to Clippers. The two sides discussed a deal that would have sent Fabricio Oberto, Bruce Bowen and George Hill to L.A., but the deal fell apart late in the day.

It's not all that bad, cause Oberto is a solid role player and i really like George Hill.

Though, if we're willing to take on some longer contracts, then yes, Camby could/should net us something better starting this offseason/draft.

I do like George Hill but could we have at least gotten some kind of draft pick from them?

Wow, I would have been really horrified to be cheering for a team with Bruce Bowen playing on it. Narrow escape for me.
I must admit, though, that I've become such a huge Marcus Camby fan that I kind of think that at his age and stage of his career the guy deserves better than what he's getting subjected to here.

Bowen would've been waived outright if the trade went down. I wouldn't mind if Camby were to been traded to the Spurs. DS was the one that turned the trade down. Probably felt that he wasn't getting the right value for Camby.

Hill would have been a better option @ the 1 than Barren but Oberto and Bowen aint worth giving up MC. Good job DTS! :nod:

Although I love Camby as a player, I wouldn't have mind if he went to the spurs. I'm up for anything to stop the lakers!!

That wouldn't have helped stop the Lakers, but I do wish Camby get a shot at playoffs!

Hopefully, next year this time, you guys will be in contention. So Mike the GM must fire Mike the Coach, and then trade Baron Davis.

If things go well for us next season we should be in the playoffs. We have too much talent and we will be able to add to that talent with our draft pick or if we decide to trade it.

I actually would've really like that trade. IDK if we would've kept Bowen or not, but we could use some help on the with our perimeter D. Also George Hill is a good young player and would've made a nice 6th man and spark off the bench for a long time. Oberto isn't great, but he is a serviceable back up big man.

Kaman/Oberto/Jordan
Z-Bo/Oberto/Skinner
Thornton/Bowen
Gordon/Hill
Davis/Taylor

Also I have always been a huge Tim Duncan fan and have loved watching the Spurs play and would love to see them add Camby and make another run.

i think george hill wouldve been our pg of the future. dude would be perfect icw eric gordon.

dont care about oberto and gowen btw. and i wouldve liked it for camby. he'd get his ring, and he deserves it.

still, now we have camby teaching deandre, which helps us a lot too for the future.

This trade could easily get revisited as soon as this off-season. Maybe Dunleavy is hoping the Spurs fall on their faces in the playoffs this year and come back offering more this summer like a first round pick.
