Should Drew Gooden be Bought Out?

Post#1 » by drewd » Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:44 pm

I was just wondering if Drew Gooden will be Bought out because sac is more focused on getting their young players more minutes...

I think that it seems like a good idea on paper, but it won't happen because that would be totally giving up. He's going to expire this season, so we might as well just keep him here and make it look like the kings can be competitive.

He still has value as a player and potentially some value as a piece of a S&T package this summer.

The thing is the Kings have 14 players on their roster. They HAVE to have 13 bare minimum, so they'll only be able to BUY out ONE player. I doubt that player is Gooden of all players. He has potential value.

Seriously are you drew gooden or like a relative or something. I don't think its a good idea either, but you think he is Webb in his prime.

Don't buy him out for possible S&T value this summer, but I really don't wanna see Gooden on the court at all - the whole point of trading Brad was to give JT + Hawes the front court time.

I would rather see Gooden on the floor than Kenny Thomas...so he should at least have a guaranteed spot in the rotation ahead of KT.

^Agreed and he will, I'm sure. When is he due back from the injury?

I don't want to see Drew Gooden on the floor at all, to be honest. I'd rather take a good look at Diogu and Simmons.

Why cut him? He will be our best big of the bench.

The tricky part is he loses sign and trade value if he is plastered next to Kenny on the Bench. They will do a lot of evalaution in weighing the best 2 starters and backups at the 4-5. I think we should keep Greene at the 3 and alo some 4-5 matchups since he is still developing and can be so versatile.

I'm a Wizard fan but keep up with the Kings, and I thought I'd throw this out there:

If you go to Sacramento's official online shop you can buy every new players jersey (including Calvin Booth) but not Drew Gooden's. I'd think if the Kings had the intention of keeping Drew, they'd put his jersey up there before someone like Booth (no disrespect Booth, loved you as a Wizard.) So maybe I'm reading too deep in but seems like he'll be cut.

Just some food for thought...

Personally, I think it's a bad idea to cut him. He'd be good to have around the younger guys even if for just half a season, and might get the Kings some offers this summer. Throw on top of that it wouldn't look very good to cut a productive player you just got for two of the better players on the roster.

That's the problem with this organization, wasting money on actually producing a Calvin Booth jersey.

*taking note* must buy Calvin Booth jersey.

Calvin Booth, Cedric Simmons, Kenny Thomas and there is someone who thinks that Drew Gooden is the one that should be bought out?

I'm thinking buying out Gooden means you have to give him his money now. Why would we do that?

I have a simpler idea that would involve your participation. How about not reading the thread? You obviously have a different opinion of Drew Gooden than most people on the board. If you don't like it there is nothing forcing you to read the content.

Otherwise the health of the thread is fine.

Before he was traded, there was a report that Drew said he would have surgery if he couldn't come back to a decent level this season. If it's looking like that's the case and Drew won't be re-signed anyway, then might as well buy him out if a little cash can be saved as a result.

Recent reports I've seen in the Bee is that HE may be seeking a buyout before the Mar.1 deadline so he can try to sign on with a contender. If he's wants to be bought out, I say let him go.
