Antawn Jamison had 28 points and 12 rebounds and the Wizards outscored the slumping New Jersey Nets 60-36 in the paint in posting a 107-96 victory that gave them consecutive wins for only the second time this season.

Caron Butler added 19 points as the Wizards (13-42) matched their season-high winning streak and handed the Nets their fifth straight loss. Dominic McGuire scored all 11 of his points in the second half for Washington.

Devin Harris had 26 points and 10 assists in the Nets' first game since standing pat at the trading deadline on Thursday. Vince Carter, who was the focal point of 11 trade offers sent New Jersey's way, added 17 points on 6-for-17 shooting.

The change in attitude helped as Kevin Martin scored 33 points, Jason Thompson had 17 points and nine rebounds and the Kings snapped their skid with a 115-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.

"We just came out with that mentality," said Kings center Spencer Hawes, who had 11 points. "We had to stick together, and everyone, I think, gave it 110 percent -- not just for 24 minutes or 36 minutes, but for 48 minutes."

However, seven players reached double figures, including Beno Udrih with 18 points and six assists. Francisco Garcia scored 15 points, while Donte Greene matched Hawes' 11 points. Jackson added 10.

Ben Gordon scored a season-high 37 points to lead the short-handed Bulls to a 116-99 win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

Luol Deng scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Tyrus Thomas added 21 and 12 to give the Bulls their second straight win since dealing four players to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday.

Chauncey Billups scored 25 to lead Denver, which had its three-game winning streak stopped. Denver had won five of six on an eight-game road trip. Nene added 19, but only grabbed three rebounds.

Leandro Barbosa started in place of injured Amare Stoudemire and scored a career-high 41 points Friday night to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 140-118 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jason Richardson added 34 points and Shaquille O'Neal 22 as the Suns became the first team in 18 seasons to score at least 140 points in three consecutive games. The Portland Trail Blazers did it from Nov. 13-17 in 1990. The Suns did it for the first time in franchise history.

Kevin Durant scored 35 for the Thunder, who trailed by 28 in the first half but cut the lead to six early in the fourth quarter before Barbosa and the Suns blew the game open for good.

Offensive woes have haunted Pistons all season
When the Detroit Pistons came out of training camp, the defense was better developed than the offense. Four months later, the Pistons' offense still is playing catchup. Detroit's defense ranks among the league's best in several categories, but the offense has been stagnant most nights. Only Charlotte (92.5 points per game) and Memphis (93.2) are scoring less than the Pistons, who average 93.5 points per game. "Offensively, it comes with time," Detroit coach Michael Curry said. "I thought coming into the season, we would be good in both parts." While some point to the departure of point guard Chauncey Billups as the beginning of Detroit's offensive problems, Curry thinks the loss of Antonio McDyess for a month did even more damage.McDyess was included in the Billups trade for Denver's Allen Iverson on Nov. 3, but McDyess agreed to a buyout with the Nuggets and re-signed with the Pistons in December. "I think we'd be top five in both categories real easy if we had Dice the whole time," Curry said.

While McDyess would have helped, Detroit's offensive problems seem to run much deeper than not having one player for a few weeks. Throughout this season, the Pistons have struggled at the most basic offensive elements of the game, such as making wide-open shots or finishing around the basket. Although Curry hates to see his players miss easy scoring opportunities, he said it is not something that frustrates him too much. Instead, Curry said he is more bothered by "the mistakes that I consider mental mistakes, or we don't have the type of effort I like. Missed shots can be corrected. You can miss shots and still win games." Maybe so, but it helps if you take a high number of them, which has not been the case for the Pistons this season. Detroit ranks 19th in field-goal attempts at 79.1 per game. If a team doesn't take a high number of shots, then it better shoot a high percentage, which has not happened too often this season for the Pistons. Although Detroit's 45.5 percent shooting seems respectable, it pales in comparison to other teams that have taken a relatively low number of shot attempts. Of the 11 teams that have taken fewer shots than Detroit, nine are shooting as good or better than the Pistons. That group includes upcoming opponents Cleveland, New Orleans, Orlando and Boston.

The Pistons' shooting struggles have been even more pronounced in the fourth quarter. Friday's 83-79 loss to the San Antonio Spurs was yet another game in which the Pistons had problems scoring points down the stretch. Detroit's defense held the Spurs to 19 points in the fourth quarter on 6-for-17 shooting. However, the Pistons' undoing came when they missed their last four shots from the field, which contributed to a disappointing 36.4-percent shooting effort in the fourth quarter. Allen Iverson led all scorers with 31 points, so the Pistons tried to ride him out as long as they could. But when Iverson sputtered -- he missed four of his final five shots in the fourth after making four of his first six -- there was no one ready to step in to pick up the slack. "That's when we get into problems," said Detroit forward Tayshaun Prince, who was scoreless in the fourth after missing his two shot attempts from the field. "Fourth quarter, we need to start running things as far as a fluid offense, so anybody can start making plays. "A lot of times, we go through the person that has the hot hand. If he runs out, then the other guys are kind of out of place."

Jazz owner Larry Miller dies
The Utah Jazz lost their patriarch on Friday, as team owner Larry H. Miller died at the age of 64 due to complications from type 2 diabetes. The team announced that Miller passed away at his home, surrounded by family members.

Miller had endured severe health problems recently and had both of his legs removed below the knee last month. "It is with great sadness that I offer condolences to Gail and the Miller family on behalf of the entire NBA family," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement. "Larry's legacy extends beyond the NBA as he touched many lives in the Salt Lake City region through his business ventures and charitable endeavors. The NBA lost a great leader, colleague and friend today. We will miss him."

The owner of the Jazz for the last 23 years, Miller first purchased 50 percent of the franchise in 1985, then took care of the remaining half just one year later and helped make the team an institution in Salt Lake City. He is one of the most prominent and well-known businessmen in the Salt Lake metro area, owning 39 auto dealerships and several movie theaters, among many other business ventures. He is survived by his wife Gail, four sons, one daughter and 21 grandchildren

Bucks F Villanueva ejected
Milwaukee Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva was ejected in the fourth quarter of Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers for a flagrant-2 foul.

With 6:54 remaining, Anderson Varejao grabbed an offensive rebound and got hit in the face by Villanueva as he went back up with the shot. Zydrunas Ilgauskas rushed to Varejao's aid and he and Villanueva went chest-to-chest before the Bucks' forward put his right hand around Ilgauskas' neck. Ilgauskas received a technical foul but was not ejected.

Villanueva had 26 points and 13 rebounds prior to his departure.

Stoudemire Undergoes Successful Eye Surgery
Phoenix Suns forward Amar’e Stoudemire underwent successful surgery today to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye. The procedure was performed earlier this morning by Dr. Pravin Dugel at Spectra Eye Institute in Sun City, Arizona. “We are very glad to hear that Amar’e should have a 100 percent recovery relative to his vision and his long-term prognosis is excellent,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Steve Kerr. “Obviously, it is very disappointing to lose him at this time. We are all very excited about the progress the team is making, but Amar’e’s health and the health of all our players is our number one concern.”

Stoudemire’s return to physical activity is estimated at eight weeks depending upon his healing process. Dr. Dugel stresses that recovery varies on a case-by-case basis.

Phoenix’s leading scorer for the third-straight season, Stoudemire has played in all 53 games and is averaging a team-high 21.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.08 blocks and 2.0 assists. One of only two Suns to appear in every game (53) this season, Stoudemire became the youngest Suns player to reach 9,000 career points on Feb. 6.

Eye injury may put Suns' Stoudemire out for season
Amare Stoudemire could be finished for the season just days after the Phoenix Suns decided not to trade him.

Stoudemire, a starter for the West in Sunday's All-Star Game, had eye surgery Friday and won't be able to resume physical activity for about eight weeks. "We're going to be ultraconservative with this and if means he misses the remainder of the season, so be it," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said. "He's got a long career and a long life ahead of him. And that's the most important thing."

Stoudemire, who was averaging a team-high 21.4 points and 8.1 rebounds, was injured during his 42-point performance in a rout of the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. The Suns didn't find out about the need for surgery until after Thursday's trade deadline.

Pistons' Stuckey discovering learning curve tough
Pistons' funk coincides with their point guard's struggles since drawing the league's attention. The NBA can be an unforgiving place for a young point guard. Midway through his second season, Rodney Stuckey is coming to that bitter realization. Stuckey has made a name for himself with his aggressive style and ability to get to the basket and finish. That same style prompted Pistons coach Michael Curry to insert him into the starting lineup.

But over the last six games, Stuckey has been in a funk. He's averaging eight points and three assists and shooting 33 percent (18-for-54). He took only three shots in Thursday's 83-79 loss to San Antonio, but finished with eight assists. "I think that's the learning curve for not just a point guard, but for any young player," Curry said Friday. "I've always said in this league there's a difference in getting 20 points when you're not the focal point of the defense and you're pretty much playing off everyone else. Now, his 20 points will always be a hard-earned 20 because he is going to be the focal point of the other teams' defense, at least one of the focal points." It's no small coincidence Stuckey's struggles have coincided with the Pistons' current slump -- five straight. "I don't know. It is what it is," Stuckey said after Thursday's loss. "It was just another game that we lost. You can't really explain (anything) anymore. We just keep losing."

Curry is confident Stuckey will work through this tough stretch, but time isn't on his side. The loss to San Antonio dropped Detroit into a tie with Philadelphia for the sixth playoff spot in the East, two games ahead of eighth-place Milwaukee. Making things more urgent is the current stretch of road games against Cleveland, Miami, New Orleans, Orlando and Boston, all playoff contenders. "A lot of times they are putting their best perimeter defender on him," Curry said. "And so because of that he has to continue to improve and continue to fight through the different challenges he has every night."

Road is better
The five-game trip that starts in Cleveland on Sunday could be a blessing in disguise for Detroit.

"This group has had tendencies not to play as well at home for whatever reason," Curry said of his team, which has lost nine of its last 11 home games. "We made a big emphasis of that last year to try to take care of our home court. We haven't done it this year and we've played better on the road (13-11). We're hoping we can do really good on this road trip."

Said forward Tayshaun Prince : "I think a lot of times your concentration seems better on the road from the standpoint that you're by yourself against all odds and it's better to play that way, I think, when you're struggling."

Football fun
After practice Friday, guard Allen Iverson showed his teammates why he was considered one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country in 1992.

A bag of footballs found its way into the practice facility and Iverson took the liberty to throw a few passes to teammates. Iverson passed for 1,423 yards with 14 touchdowns and rushed for 781 yards and 15 touchdowns his senior season at Bethel High in Virginia.

Rasheed Wallace made a couple nice, one-handed snags, showing he might have been a nice, 6-foot-11 tight end.

Kobe Bryant scored 11 of his 39 points in overtime and the Los Angeles Lakers beat New Orleans 115-111 on Friday night, snapping the Hornets' NBA-record streak of 13 consecutive overtime victories.

Pau Gasol had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the defending Western Conference champions, who won for the 14th time in 16 games.Derek Fisher, whose 3-pointer with 14.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter forced overtime, made four free throws in the final 14.3 seconds of the extra period to ice it. Lamar Odom grabbed 12 points and 17 rebounds, the fifth time in six games that he had 17 or more boards.

The Lakers improved the NBA's best record to 45-10 and avenged a 116-105 loss to the Hornets on Jan. 6 that ended a 15-game home winning streak. Chris Paul and David West, who combined for 72 points in that one, had 21 and 16 respectively in the rematch while Rasual Butler led the team with 31.
