I'd say.. 4 years, 20-25 million.

I think that would be a great contract. Or.. 3 years, 18 million.

Damn you Luke and Morrison taking all of Ariza's and Odom's money.

Anyone else think that if we win the championship this year then Buss will definitely re-sign Ariza around the 5-6 million dollar range?

I think what Odom and Ariza get depends on if we win it all this year, and if Kobe really takes a paycut.

What world are you guys living in?

Money or the potential to make it (playing time, marketing, etc.) is about 99% of motivation behind making any decision.

Odom and Ariza are going to go where they're paid the most, and have the potential to make the most.

You have to remember, a player only really makes about half of his salary; half of his money goes to agents, taxes, and any other mandatory professional under an NBA player's payroll.

$8M/year is really, only (in a relative sense), $4M take home.

$10M is only $5M

$20+M is $10M

etc

Players are trying to bank as many millions as they possibly can, during, an average short career (5 years).

When it comes to providing for your family, and maintaining a luxurious life style (it isn't hard to spend millions in the united states), "Laker lore" and "playing from native city", don't carry much weight.

ARIZA IS THIS YEARS SASHA WHO WAS LAST YEARS LUKE

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

ARIZA IS THIS YEARS LAKER IN A CONTRACT YEAR THAT IS GETTING OVERRATED BECAUSE HE IS HAVING A CONTRACT YEAR TYPE SEASON

MITCH NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND RESIGN LO... I KNOW LOTS OF POSTERS LIKE ARIZA MORE THAN LO (BETTER HOPS) LO IS THE GLUE GUY AND THE PERFECT 4TH OPTION. Why did we give Sasha and Luke those contracts if the Lakers need more 6th men???

Agreed. If we don't win the championship non of them gets paid anyways. I disagree with your assessment of the Sasha signing though. Sasha got a fair deal and the only reason he's not playing as well as last year is because his role isn't very defined this year. Sasha is the kind of role player you want on your championship team.

A lot depends on Kobe.

He should pull a Tim Duncan and sign for about 18 milli a year. That's good money and just tell his agent to pick up a few more endorsements overseas or something. Kobe can give the Lakers some flex. If Kobe wants to keep this team together (and he should since this team is ready to go dynasty) then he can't go looking for a max contract in these harsh economic times.

On topic I think Ariza deserves 6 mill a year. That's good for what he brings and like people have said making 6 mill in LA is better than making 8 or 9 mill in Toronto, OKC, Mil, etc.

I do think LO will stay at a 8-10 mill contract, he's in the perfect system for his skillset/mentality and he's playing really well right now. Why start over on some scrub team.....
I'm so tired of the typical......

I love Ariza but I was just thinking that Houston might trade him for Battier since they are looking for a young guy to replace TMAC

The Lakers have the best bench and the best starting line up. Keeping this team together will be a challenge.

My list of Lakers to keep in order(Fish = Laker for life)
Kobe
Gasol
Bynum
PJ
LO
Farmar (Fish is getting up there)
Ariza
Sasha
Luke
...

Ever since the interview i saw on youtube of morrison going to the lakers (excitement level - 0, and he sounded as if he was thankful he's still in the NBA type of attitude). I would do a buyout on him and save that money for defensive hungry Ariza. I know we haven't seen him in action much but seeing him play prevoiusly.. i would buy him out.

hope we get to keep lo and ariza..

The Lakers have to be very conservative.

That means Ariza should get 3 yrs 15 mill. Odom should get 7.5 mill over 6-7 years and Vujacic, Walton, and Morrison NEED to be traded for functional players and CAP RELIEF. Vujacic's shooting can be replaced rather cheaply.

Ariza will stay for 15 mill over 3 yrs because you give him a chance to start on a championship team. He'll get more if he keeps improving as a starting three. Odom stays because he wants to stay.

Other teams might offer him 45 mill over four or five years, but he'll take his 45 mill over 6 to retire a Laker.

Just a thought.

All our guys are decent bench players but who on this team is a bargain besides Kobe??? The Lakers pay for talent, generally a little too much after getting excited over a BREAKOUT year. Thats Mitch's Acilies Heal. Luke got his contract after being the BEST 3 pt shooter for half a year. Same with Sasha.

THE LAKERS SHOULD AVG THE PLAY OF THE PLAYER OVER THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THEIR PREVIOUS CONTRACT AND EVALUATE WHAT THE PLAYER IS WORTH. This team doesn't want to overpay for everybody.

IN FACT MOST CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS GET A LITTLE DISCOUNT. PLAY HERE GET EXPOSURE AND A CHANCE TO WIN!!!
