OT: The Economy
I'm just a poor ignorant English student, I have no insights - but Elrod's thread on the C's owners finances makes me curious about this board's collective take on /experience of our Economic Crisis -

Re: OT: The Economy
Well, I for one am self-employed, and for the first time in 3 years of working fully for myself I am out of work. Fortunately when the ground thaws I have a good amount of work again, and was prepared for this so I'm taking time to remodel a bathroom in my house. It has been years since I didn't have work available without even having to look for it though, and it makes me a little nervous. On a more relevent note, my girlfriend manages a community food cupboard here in VT, and has seen first hand a significant increase in the need for charitable contributions. Fortunately there is a lot of support for the food cupboard in the area and people have pulled together to make sure that the new demand stays met, but that is in large part because we live in an area where a lot of wealthy people from out of state retire.
