Malik Hairston

Post#1 » by the southern dandy » Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:59 pm

He's been with the team receiving spot minutes for the entire rodeo road trip. We know that the Spurs have high hopes for him in the future, as they guaranteed his contract.

Could some of the Spurs fans who get to closely watch most of the games give some thoughts on Malik in general?

I haven't seen a whole lot of him but he seems to be a cerebral player who does a little of everything. His intensity and defense are quite solid. Also his playmaking and patience on offense were pleasing surprises. I feel he deserves a low spot in the rotation right now as he brings qualities that the other, more finesse, Spurs wing players lack.

He's pretty aggressive when he gets the ball, taking it to the hole quite often. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem that good at finishing in traffic yet. He's very active on defense as well, but is very foul-prone. We'll get to see what he's really made of next season.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate him. But I'm not nearly as impressed as most Spurs fans seem to be about him. I don't see anything he does spectacularly well. Or ever REALLY well.

If Hairston puts the work in and can start knocking down open jump shots along with playing adequate defense I think he's got a shot to be the next Devin Brown. If not, he'll be the next name to add to the list of wing players fans got excited about because they're young, but who weren't good enough to make an NBA roster. Guys like James White, Jeremy Richardson, Keith Langford, Marcus Williams, Melvin Sanders, etc..............

I really like his size and athleticism, seems to have some smarts

One play I was quite impressed with was his rebound, push full court-opposite side bounce pass to somebody in the corner for three, during the Wizards game.
