Board Racism

Post#1 » by Shrunk » Sat Feb 21, 2009 2:41 pm

I noticed on the kirk revisted topic when someone mentioned if Mchale was trying to make the whitest team in the league, and i responded with maybe just the smartest, I was called a racist. My comment was based in terms of basketball IQ, not the color of ones skin. For you people who took it to mean something else, was racist on your part--do you hear me rev? I looked at past topics with wording about white players being unathletic, how we should trade mike miller every other week. I believe everyone can be racist sometimes, alot of you people need to take a look at yourselves first.

People wanted to trade Miller for a couple reasons:
1- he wasn't playing all that well
2- to get capspace for this summer
3- he is 28 and the team is still rebuilding

thats not racism.............................
if that is then i'm a racist too by calling the NBA to now allow Kevin Love joining the rookie or HORSE game just because he's white............
plus, i think white people can just be as competitive as black people, after all, the basketball game is meant for everyone

1.) Everyone is racist to some degree ... it mrely depends on how individuals choose to act on it.

2.) This board is not racist, but moreso, a site that allows some people to post comments that clearly lack intelligence.

Here is the thing. Most white people don't filter their comments through the lens of race. Thus I don't think it is racism, just racial insensitivity. Of course online where people read works within their own context w/o knowing the other person's experiences, they tend to jump to conclusions. Then the name calling, etc. begins.

the term "racist" is a term of tyranny in our society and has no practical meaning...thus, innocent remarks that have any element whatsoever dealing with black/white differences, regardless of whether the remarks are true, can be labeled racist, and often lead to the destruction of lives and careers...although unfortunate, if one is a white male, it is best not to mention any differences or distinctions, lest one be labeled unfairly...

"Shrunk" is one of the lamest bits I've seen...doesn't piss people off nearly enough and doesn't stick around to push the issue.

If you're going to make a bit, you should be quite a bit more offensive in your comments and follow up on your arguments with tenacity.

Honestly, I'm just curious as to why you thought a borderline comment on Minnesota timberwolves basketball forum called for you to take the stand for racial equality. I just don't know why you or anyone else would care whether or not this Shrunk character is racist.

Shrunk's comment came off as racist. We don't need an additional thread to discuss it. Move on already.

Iommi, as a mod one of the tasks is to keep threads peaceful. When someone makes a comment that seems obviously racist. He made the "racist" comment, some people commented on it and then we moved on.

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=882635&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=195

When someone asks if Mchale is trying to make the whitest team"--shrunk responds "maybe just the smartest" making a direct connection with "whiteness" and "smarts" which is racist. If Shrunk meant something else then maybe his post should have explained that rather than coming across as a quick racist pun. I hardly made a stand for racial equality, rather when someone (*ironically Dr.K) asked "wtf was that" I simply said "standard stupid racist comment" Hardly anything worthy of another thread.

any other comments or can we /thread?

Seems to me Shrunk may responding to some oversensitive whining.

Some things just are. White men can't jump. Not altogather true but I doubt there's more than 3 white guys in the league who are there for vertical leap. So are white guys faster? Last Olympics I really didn't see white guys in the sprints much. Are white guys pretty smart? Well, there's a lot of 'em that have a PhD from Harvard or Stanford or Yale. There's a lot of White guys who won a Nobel prize or invented something or made a Billion dollars somehow. I guess white guys do smart okay.
You can thus figure a white guy who ain't 6-10 + is probably in the league on smarts/skills.
Larry Bird and Chris Mullin were not "freak athletes" Neither were John Stockton or Steve Nash or Mark Price.

Magic Johnson may have been the smartest player I ever saw. Wilt was not just big but technically remarkable. He INVENTED tactics big men use now......Moses Malone and Bill Russell invented many of the others.

Black Americans can get beyond being hypersensitive. A Black American is President. A black Women was Secretary of State....and most remarkable....a black guy is the top Golfer! So...don't sweat the petty stuff. Everybody's just people now. Except maybe the Eskimos...there's no Eskimo in the NBA.
That's not right.
CENSORED... No comment.
