Patrick Willis

Just a thread to discuss this guy. Aside from the athleticism and defensive impact, I think an important element in his selection is the fact that BY is going to be retiring at some point in the not too distant furure, and we now have an identity guy/leader to take over when that happens.

Anyways, just a stud player. He's not quite in that uber-freak prospect level of a Seau/BU/Marvin Jones (best ilb prospect I've ever seen, on paper)...but he's a stud with a chance to be great, and he will be learning under Singletary.

Not too bad.

Defensive Rookie of the Year this year in my book. I am glad they went with Willis as opposed to Carriker or Branch. In Nolan I trust. They also just traded up to get Joe Staley who sounds like a freak. Dude is 6'5" 305 lbs and was a tight end as a freshman and a sprinter in high school.

Im glad we drafted this kid and I think just like a lot of people do that he can be great. If you look at this guys up bringing you can see that he has what it takes to be a leader and a big player for our team. Im glad that we got him and looking forward to see what he can do for us this year!

Hopefully he doesn't leave like Peterson did.

It's really rare to find a guy with his combination of college production (3rd in the nation in tackles), measureables (4.38 40 yard dash at the combine) and size (6-1, 250 I think). It's even rarer to see him fall to #11.

I second the DROY vote.

P-Willie and ManLaw interviewed on KNBR this morning. I didn't hear too much of the interview but from what I heard Willis sounds like a great human being in addition to being a great LB. Does anyone know his history? They kept talking about how he was a "great story" but never said what it was all about.

Willis is still unsigned, with training camp opening tomorrow. Good news is that he's the only unsigned pick and Nolan makes it sound like they're close with PW.

Willis signed about an hour ago. Based on the contracts of the picks around him, probably 5 yrs/18M with ~10M guaranteed.

different situation. Peterson was leaving a crap team for big money.
